Irma ended up doing the same thing. The fact remains that all of these hurricanes ended up strengthening to category 4 at some point during their existence, and these dumbkopfs out there are acting like Harvey and Irma is the first time in history that two cat 4 hurricanes formed within days of each other, when in fact, Gustav and Ike did the same thing 2008, but I guess everybody has forgotten about that.
You are missing the distinction here. Sure, Gustav and Ike were at one point Category 4 hurricanes, but when Gustav made landfall it was only a category 2 hurricane. Both Harvey and Irma were category 4 hurricanes when they made landfall. Not just during their existence, but when they made landfall. Hurricane Irma was a category 4 hurricane when it made landfall and then after that weakened to a category 2, as all hurricanes do when they reach drier area. That is the distinction.

But if you want to go on and believe that the reports of it being the first time that 2 Category 4 hurricanes reached landfall in the same year is FAKE NEWS go right ahead.

Why not? Nowadays, fake news is whatever someone wants it to be.

Watching tonight's fund-raising concert for the victims of Hurricanes Harvey and Irma reminded me of one thing. That's how terribly wrong the premise of this whole thread is. America's true colors don't lie in the hatred coming from the extremes. America's true colors are shown every time there is a cause or disaster that the people rally around. This is when America especially shines, and when it's true true colors shine their brightest. From the original patriots to the greatest generation during World War II right up to today. Even more true considering yesterday was the anniversary of 9/11 as well. If you want to see it's true colors just look at the response to 9/11 16 years ago. Or at America's generosity shown in the last couple of weeks. :attitude:

Saw this on FB a couple of weeks ago and it sums it up pretty well

"Watching the Hurricane Harvey destruction and rescues, I am struck by one thought. Cajuns have flooded in with boats to help Texans. White men are loading black men and women into their boats. Black men are jumping out of their secure boats to help Hispanic families gather coolers of personal belongings that are floating away. Asian women are crying and hugging white women. This is the real America. These are the every day people. The hate groups and media running from town to town creating a false sense of oppression and hate don't represent this country and they aren't trying to better it. The people loading their boats and spending money to travel hundreds of miles to risk their lives pulling people from homes they will never be able to afford are the true picture of who we are. Why is it that we witness this kind of support amongst strangers over and over in disaster situations and still allow such a small group of hate mongers to keep a divide alive that actually doesn't exist among the majority."
This is America's true colors. This is why we celebrate America and the 4th of July. Stop letting the hate groups define us. America is defined by it's response to times of trouble and distress. This is when America's true colors shine.

I don't think that was the original meaning of this thread's name.

Maybe. Maybe not. Reread the thread. You'll find post after post after post pointing out the actions of a small group of people and their stupid viewpoints and then implying that that is the viewpoint of the majority of Americans and it's true colors. It's not. Even to go so far as not celebrating America because of these stupid viewpoints that exist. These are extremes and don't represent the true colors of America. The true colors of America are shown in times of crisis.

If Hillary wants to save some face (if it's not too late), donate the proceeds from her new book to help the hurricane victims.
The list can go on of public figures who could do something, and look like heroes.

Jeb Bush, this is still your state, isn't it?
Rupert Murdoch, Bill O'Reilley, Maxine Waters, the end is listless.

But it is reassuring seeing man helping man, regardless of color, religion, or political stripe. Compassion still prevails in times of crisis.

It's still unfortunate to see looters and price gougers looking to take advantage during a catastrophe, but they'll get theirs.

Another example of how Faux News always intentionally reports the exact opposite of what everybody else reports to stir up its alt-right base:

So, there was an incident in which a biracial little boy was invited to a party by three older white boys, who somehow talked the boy into putting the rope from a tire swing around his neck, and when he did, the older boys tried to lynch him, all the while hurling racial epithets at him.

And as this is circulating, Faux News reports on a black rapper who pretends to lynch a white boy in a music video of his.
