Sharon and I celebrating 17 years of marriage.
A couple from our church took us out for dinner (it's their anniversary too, but they have a few more years on us).
Went to the fanciest Italian restaurant around. Makes Mackaphoney Grill look like Burger King.
This is the type of place with valet parking, tie and jacket required, and menu prices far beyond our budget. But it was their treat. They footed the bill for EVERYTHING.
The bill for the four of us was over three hundred bucks. But they wanted to treat us.
We shared an appetizer, gnocchi in mushroom sauce.
Clams Casino.
Caesar Salad.
Main course was risotto with asparagus, sun dried tomatoes, tips of filet mignon in a brandy demi-glaze sauce.
Amaretto gelato for dessert.
Espresso with biscotti.
Not exactly spaghetti-o's.
For those of you that might think "Eeewwww!!! That's gross! I'd never eat that!", wait until you're my age and see if your taste buds don't change.
We couldn't afford this place on our own, but every bite was worth every penny.
This might also be out of element for most of you, but it was common growing up in the 70's, on weekends, the family getting dressed up and going out to dinner.
Back then, restaurants weren't exactly kid-friendly. You got dressed up, ate grown-up food, acted grown-up (you were expected to be on your best behavior, or you got smacked). No phones, no video games, and dinner might last an hour or two. You might fidget in your seat, but you didn't dare act up. So yes, there was some degree of discipline involved.
How many people have I alienated by now?
But might I digress. Another year with the love of my life, and good company over amazing food. Might be a while before we're wined and dined like that again, but it was magnificent. For one evening, we lived like kings.
