Yes, its a rare thing, the sand is made out of a rock called Oliveine see-

its about a 4 mile hike round trip, someone felt sorry for us and gave us a ride in the back of a truck (its a 4-wheel trail) But its at south point (the most southern point of the united states) its very windy, the trees are bent because its so windy and it always blows in the same direction- see

ALSO I found out why its so smellly here. They have a paper plant across the way, and I guess it smells that way every morning here (I have never known trees to smell so bad, but I guess they do when you turn them to paper)

why would it be painful? no actualy its VERY fine sand, felt good, except when you were up a bit from the beach and the wind picks up the sand and hits you hard! felt like little needles hiting the back of my legs (cuz like I said its VERY windy at south point)
