    Rosita appreciation thread

I think the Rosita on Sesame Street Live still has wings - my son commented on it a couple years back

    Number Painter: Paul Benedict Bio

I think I saw Paul Benedict on BTL today He played the father in Rumplestiltskin in the episode "Hay day". Good to see him working! http://pbskids.org/lions/hay/story4.html http://pbskids.org/lions/hay/story7.html

Now if they could just find a way to translate Beaker

    Zoe's Pet Rock

I remember; my parents absolutely refused to buy me one and I was despondent because all the cool kids had one. Of course, grabbing just any rock off the street wasn't sufficient! However, my son has quite the rock collection, and occasionally they take on personalities and have battles. I...

They need to make Elmo's world its own show!

But they DO make changes - read the ToughPigs reviews on the first SS season he reviewed, and on the 2003 season. I, for one, believe that SW watches forums like this one to gage the reaction of parents. They've made changes that have reflected some of the comments and complaints here...

They need to make Elmo's world its own show!

Thanks, GelflingWaldo I've always liked ToughPigs, but I think this is particularly excellent - I have to say, I don't entirely agree with him about Elmo's World, but I think his reviews of Elmo and SS in general are very sound.

    My own two cents

All this aside, if we're talking education, I do think there is something to be said for the idea of giving Elmo his own show. Personally, I'm not a big fan. I do, however, see the educational value of Elmo for the under-three set; there were a lot of basic concepts that my son learned...

    Talking with kids.

I think that's one I remember - also vaguely: did he do one with a red ball, or an apple? This would have been years ago, but I think after everyone could see Snuffy - but still when he had his own set, the alley cul-de-sac. "Elmo Says Boo" video is one of my son's favorites, though there...

    Parents watching Sesame thread

Of course, I'll keep watching - but the days of the two of us watching together may be numbered. Much as I love SS, I'm not going to force my son to watch if he doesn't want to.

    Talking with kids.

I agree completely - it's one of our favorites. Jerry Nelson's done interviews with kids as other characters as well, right? I think Snuffy and Mumford sometimes talk to kids (at least, after Snuffy came out) He's terrific, too. Maybe it was Henson's direction that made the older...

    Parents watching Sesame thread

I have to admit, one of the things I most looked forward to when pregnant was the ability to come out of the closet as a SS fan! My son is now five, and the window may soon close, but I'll still watch when I can!

    Talking with kids.

Interesting to see I'm not the only one who's complained about this. I don't think it's the kids, though - I don't remember who does Herry, but most of the really memorable kid segments were done by either Jim Henson or Frank Oz as one of their many characters, and they both have a special...

    Minority Characters

But I DO think that they're used to illustrate language differences; they always struck me as being based on a foreign New York tourist - and I think that's a good thing, since Americans struggle so much with language differences.

    Minority Characters

Right - Mel could work, but again, he's not on the street, and not around anymore. Plus he's "translated" by another monster, which doesn't have the same effect. I'd prefer how the Two-headed Monster speaks a kind of monster version of "spanglish," where there's an English word here or...

    Minority Characters

I'd settle for a muppet that doesn't speak ANY English or Spanish, or has some other difference, like can't hear or see. (If the Two-Headed Monster became a regular character that the other characters interacted with, that would work) They don't need to push it, but they do need to show it...
