Working arms for a very large puppet

Thanks for the info about the body frame. What are the details of the backpack/laundry basket attachment? It occurs to me that an internal arm rod wouldn't necessarily have to be supported by the body. Imagine a hollow arm, with a rod inside it that only attaches to the puppet's hand. The...

Working arms for a very large puppet

Not to derail the thread, but what exactly is the internal structure made of? Also, how is the internal structure attached to the backpack? I assume the weight is carried by the backpack (not on your head, which is what it kind of looks like). More on topic, the oar idea sounds like a good...

    "Rites et Jeux" (Gentry) help?

Does anyone know where I could obtain or watch a copy of Philippe Gentry's puppetry documentary "Rites et Jeux" that he made for UNESCO in the sixties? I've found a couple of clips online but nothing more.

    Birthday Party Shows

    Puppet Hand Mechanism

Fair point, though I gotta say, I built this puppet four years ago and the hand is still in top shape.

    Puppet Hand Mechanism

I posted here years and years ago about the cool little puppet hand mechanism that I built, but I never gave much information for people who wanted to try it themselves. That has finally changed -- click here: http://theabstractions.com/hand.html ...for lots of information and some hi-res...

    What gives you motivation/inspiration?

I agree with Andrew -- I think if puppeteers only look to other puppeteers for inspiration, there's a danger of just repeating, rather than creating something new. I get inspiration from aboriginal art, the Firesign Theatre, webcomics, Aardman Animations, Douglas Adams, books about museums...

    Rod Puppet Sculpting

I've had some success doing papier-mache with blank newsprint and acrylic matte medium. A few layers of that make something quite smooth, lightweight, and super hard. Like this head I made: http://theabstractions.com/progress17.html -Grant

    What Really makes me Tick

"What makes me tick" doesn't mean "what annoys me". It means "how I work".
