    Being Elmo

Hey, everyone--maybe other people have discussed this in other places on the forum, but I was just wondering if anyone's seen "Being Elmo: A Puppeteer's Journey" yet and how they liked it. It just came to Chicago and is here for another week, and I'm really excited about seeing it. I've heard...

Is there a substitute for antron fleece?

One of the best things about JoAnn Fabrics is the fleece in the remnant bins. Make sure you check them out! They usually have TONS of fleece (usually a yard or two each from the end of a roll) that are generally half off. I get lots of different colors, which come in really handy for puppet...

    Gene's Kermit Replica Project

Hey--that's looking really great! I'm thinking about doing a Kermit replica (will be my first puppet in a few years, so we'll see how that goes), and I was wondering if anyone knows how Kermit's head holds his shape. Is he really just a simply sock puppet-esque character, or is there some foam...

    Polar fleece

Yeah--my puppets are mostly for home use (entertaining friends and young relatives). I find the soft fuzziness of polar fleece to be great for them. And I totally agree about the 'sparkly thing' with antron. It makes puppets look very strange whenever they have their pictures taken with a...

    My new Cat puppet

The detail work is awesome! I love the pads on the paws and the whole design of the mouth.

    My first puppet!

Great job! I really like the hair. Like someone else said, too, the color selection is fantastic. I hope your daughter is enjoying it!

    My first puppet project

For a first puppet, the 'baseball stitch' tends to be a pretty easy one, and (for me, at least) it hides seams pretty well. Part of that depends on the material. That is, seams disappear more easily with nappier fabric.

    Arm making technique(s)?

I'm not sure if this is what you're looking for, since it is more made for live performance, where the puppeteers are obvious and unhidden (a la Avenue Q). However, Thistledown Puppets did an interesting stageshow using gloved lower arms/hands on the main Bull character. (see link) It also...

Where the Wild Things Are - Movie

I have mixed feelings about the movie, having loved the book as a kid. The book, however, is only 10 (I think sentences long) and has no real plot or character development. It's so minimalistic. But Drtooth, I think you're totally right--it was an interesting psychological piece. Some...

The 'What Song Are You Currently Listening To?' Thread

Sweet; same here. Immediately followed by their "I'm Gonna Keep On Lovin' You" and Styx's "The Best of Times".

Who's going to see Disney's the Princess and the Frog

I'm looking forward to the new film, probably more for what it represents for the future of animation than for the story itself (which looks pretty good, too; I'm one of those people who likes a dose of classic Disney smarminess). Whenever my family would go to Disney World when I was a kid, I...
