People who don't like the idea of Socialism don't like the idea of rich people having to part with small fractions of their precious wealth so the little people can have their fair share. Again, the little people are the ones working three or more jobs at once just to survive, whereas rich people often inherit their wealth and get it without breaking a sweat or working a day in their lives.

Part of it is true, you can achieve your goals if you go to college and BUST YOUR BUTT.
That may have been true once upon a time, but it's not true in this day and age. There's even a few people on this very forum who have struggled to get work in their chosen fields despite college education . . . really, the only sure-fire way to get the work you want is if you know people.

Somewhere in the middle of that lies the truth. Even 20 years ago, "It's not what you know, but who you know".
That is part of the equation, but that means when you're starting out, you have to work that much harder to get your foot in the door.
Hard, yes. Discouraging, sometimes. But not impossible.

Socialism is a terrible idea and it’ll succeed about as well as communism did in Russia. Give it time, you’ll see.

And FDR was not all he was cracked up to be. He got us out of the depression but his actions have been snowballing and it’s gotten worse and worse each year.

George Carlin once did a great bit on the Baby Boomers.
Whiny, narcissistic, self-indulgent yuppies with a very simple philosophy in life:
"GIMME THAT!!! IT'S MINE!!!!"

Their parents, who survived the Depression and WWII, handed them everything. (Big disservice). Some did go out and bust their butt to make their way in the world, but many got a big push from Mommy and Daddy's deep pockets.
For those of us that came after, very few had that advantage.
We had to toil and sacrifice to make it, but we didn't have parents who could hand over 50K to start a business.

So the only thing I had to fall back on was to outwork everybody else. Sometimes it paid off, but there were a lot of disappointments along the way.

So I still feel like telling younger folk, if you want to be a Muppeteer, or whatever is on your heart, you can't wish it into existence.
And forget about instant gratification. You won't become a billionaire overnight. But if you stay committed to a goal, and put in a lot of tough, vicious, nauseating work (and dealing with the temptation to give up when things get rough)
you MIGHT stand a chance.
