If you're a southerner, then you're automatically an American anyway, so I don't see where the 'choice' part of this comes in unless you're talking about something like Argentina.

That’s what I always thought, but too often I’ve seen a hat, t-shirt or bumper sticker that says, “American by birth, Rebel by choice.” Apparently some Southerners don’t want to be Americans, so I just thought I’d turn the saying on its head.

Trump being president has made being a southerner a bad thing again. With the gun loving white power loving people coming out of there hiding places saying "God gave us our president". Causing so much hate and racism that I'm surprised we are not having a civil war.
