Hey, guess what? The Henson family sold the Muppets to Disney, did you guys know? Oh, and Disney fired Steve Whitemore as well, can you believe it? I can't believe all of this is happening right now!
When did this all happen? Wish the home page of MC would have been updated to keep us in the know.

Not so! Jim wanted it that way anyway!
Jim wanted a deal with Disney, but I do not think he wanted Disney to have complet creative control. The thing is the deal with Disney was literally killing Jim, because of everything it entailed. If he had lived till the deal was finalized it would have been completely different then what we have today.
So yes Jim wanted a partnership with Disney, but he would have still owned the characters.

He did want to do a deal with Disney, as long as Disney would have creative output from his characters and not the Sesame Street ones which he felt were entirely different entities, which he was right.

Disney may have had a different way of handling the Muppets than Jim, as well as make some blunders en route, and they're kind of in the shadow of all of Disney's first-party content and others properties like Marvel and Star Wars, but that doesn't mean they haven't done a good job with them.
