My post is filled with spoiler information pertaining to the list.

Lists like this come around every so often to remind us of just how brain dead television writers can be. Britney Spears beats the Simpsons. I'm not a huge fan of either, but when Britney has been succuessful for well over a decade and still going strong, we'll talk about her edging out the Simpsons. That is utter bull. JFK JR beats out his father on the list? That makes no sense. This is the "trendy list of celebs" not the top pop icons of all time. Jennifer Lopez is a more widely seen and popular figure than Mickey Mouse? Come on. Sure, she should be listed somewhere, but not above the world's most famous cartoon character. I think these lists are just intended to shock.

The biggest surprise is Oprah at number one. Sure, she's a great women's role model, but the other half of the population couldn't care less. She's not number one. Heck, Lady Di, Madonna and Jerry Seinfeld have more pull with pop culture. If this list had come out two years ago, Rosie would have been number one. I just don't get these lists.

Kermit and Piggy at 60 (and no Sesame Street characters mentioned) is the ultimate insult. :grouchy: Big Bird has much more clout than Dr. Phil. If it were three years ago, his space would have been filled by Judge Judy, but where is she now?

I agree...this is more of a who's in right now than who have been a bigger influence....it's a shame that it's that way, too!

Well, the two top Muppets at #60 as opposed to #160 is pretty good in my opinion, so I think it's fair. As for Dr. Phil, maybe in a few years he'll be an icon, but not yet. Heck, you might as well put Simon Cowell on there. They on the verge, but not quite!

And Oprah at #1. Hmm, I don't think so. She is an admirable success story, but come on. I would have expected Mickey, Elvis, even Michael Jackson or the Beatles, but Oprah? I don't know.

That aside, I still think it's a cool list. And look at it this way: Try to figure out how many of these stars has co-starred, or at best, taken a photo with a Muppet (or a Creature)? C'mon go ahead.

The title of this listing makes it appear like these are all enduring icons. I don't think Dr Phil (or even Britney Spears) is really an enduring icon. She'll be seen as a Debbie Gibson ten years from now. Superman, the Flintstones, Big Bird, Madonna and the Beatles are all icons that will be with us decades to come. Simon Cowell will be forgotten in a few seasons. With this sort of criteria they should list the entire cast of the Love Boat.

I really am offended that they left out Sesame Characters and Jim Henson. Heck, Walt Disney's not even listed! I suppose Kermit and Piggy represent Henson and all of his creations just as Mickey represents all of Disney, but I still think that's wrong.

Well if it's any consellation, I've seen Muppets during the profiles of Dolly Parton, Garth Brooks, Barbara Walters, and even Pamela Anderson! Guess which Muppet was on THAT one.

Mister Rogers is listed at number 148. I'm not so sure about Kenny Rogers (I'd definitely put him in the top 500 list), but Star Wars should have definitely been represented. This list is about icons and not about influencial people or films, but Yoda could easily be the representitive icon for Star Wars. Wayne Gretzky and Judge Judy make the list, but no Yoda? It just doesn't make sense. This particular oversight demonstrates how meaningless these listings really are. It's just meant to sell ad space and magazines. Still, they are fun to read.
