i was listing to muppet central radio and heard the song "j friends". there is a part that the character jim was playing says he has a friend named jane (also the name of jim's wife) and then fran brill's character says she has a friend named "jim who's tall and slim". was this coicidence or a inside joke?

It's probably all an inside joke:

Jim Henson's character sings about "Jane", his wife

Fran Brill's character sings about "Jim", probably referring to Jim Henson

and

Frank Oz's character sings about "Joan", probably referring to Sesame Street creator Joan Ganz Cooney

And lest we forget...

"Joe", maybe this was a reference to Joe Raposo?

Man #2, Man #3, Woman: "J"!

Man #1: Right. And whenever I think of the letter "J", I think of all my friends whose names begin with the letter "J" like...

Joking and a-jiving
Well, that's just like Jane

Man #1, Man #2: "J", Jane, jumping Jane
"J", Joe, jeans, and his jelly beans

There is actually a blooper that takes place in this sketch!

If you look toward the end, on the line "'J', Jane, well, let's JUMP with Jane", on the word JUMP when they all jump up, you can clearly see the top of Frank Oz's head underneath the green muppet (Frank Oz) for about a millisecond!

Anyone recall other episodes with bloopers? In one SS Alphabet Video, the person who is operating Betty-Lou is majorly exposed a few times during the "You can sing the alphabet, back to me" song. I can't recall the name of the video, but it features Baby Bear, Big Bird, and the above mentioned J song.

That video is called Do The Alphabet.

Another blooper:

In the 1972 season premiere, when they have the SESAME STREET cast doing the alphabet with their first names, you can see either Frank Oz or Cookie's right hand man's head as they prep Cookie Monster to say: "C...is for, COOKIE!!!!"

In that same episode, Frank's arm and head can be seen when Cookie's in Hooper's Store (mainly when he's eating).

Also in that same segment, you know how the harmonica plays for MUCH longer than usual? Well, it went for longer than the piece of music actually was! If you watch on the "W for Willy" part, the music loops very badly from the end of the verse to the middle of the bridge.
