We strive for peace, utopia,to make the world a better place to live in & for the future(our children & our children's children) & chaos happens(bombings, terrorism, war).Do you think we'll ever have peace in our lifetime? Some songs to think about:

Imagine by John Lennon

Imagine there's no Heaven
It's easy if you try
No **** below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today

Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace

You may say that I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one

Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world

You may say that I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will live as one

Everybody Hurts by REM

When the day is long and the night, the night is yours alone,
When you're sure you've had enough of this life, well hang on
Don't let yourself go, 'cause everybody cries and everybody hurts sometimes

Sometimes everything is wrong. Now it's time to sing along
When your day is night alone, (hold on, hold on)
If you feel like letting go, (hold on)
When you think you've had too much of this life, well hang on

'Cause everybody hurts. Take comfort in your friends
Everybody hurts. Don't throw your hand. Oh, no. Don't throw your hand
If you feel like you're alone, no, no, no, you are not alone

If you're on your own in this life, the days and nights are long,
When you think you've had too much of this life to hang on

Well, everybody hurts sometimes,
Everybody cries. And everybody hurts sometimes
And everybody hurts sometimes. So, hold on, hold on
Hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on
Everybody hurts. You are not alone

Probably Me by Sting

If the night turned cold
And the stars looked down
And you hug yourself
On the cold cold ground
You wake the morning
In a stranger’s coat
No-one would you see
You ask yourself, ’who’d watch for me?’
My only friend, who could it be?
It’s hard to say it
I hate to say it
But it’s probably me

When your belly’s empty
And the hunger’s so real
And you’re too proud to beg
And too dumb to steal
You search the city
For your only friend
No-one would you see
You ask yourself, ’who could it be?’
A solitary voice to speak out and set me free
I hate to say it
I hate to say it
But it’s probably me

You’re not the easiest person I ever got to know
And it’s hard for us both to let our feelings show
Some would say
I should let you go your way
You’ll only make me cry
If there’s one guy, just one guy
Who’d lay down his life for you and die
It’s hard to say it
I hate to say it
But it’s probably me

When the world’s gone crazy, and it makes no sense
And there’s only one voice that comes to your defense
And the jury’s out
And your eyes search the room
And one friendly face is all you need to see
If there’s one guy, just one guy
Who’d lay down his life for you and die
It’s hard to say it
I hate to say it
But it’s probably me

I hate to say it
I hate to say
But it’s probably me
I hate to say it
I hate to say
But it’s probably me
I hate to say it
I hate to say
But it’s probably me

Land of Confusion by Genesis

I must've dreamed a thousand dreams
Been haunted by a million screams
But I can hear the marching feet
They're moving into the street.

Now did you read the news today
They say the danger's gone away
But I can see the fire's still alight
There burning into the night.

There's too many men
Too many people
Making too many problems
And not much love to go round
Can't you see
This is a land of confusion.

This is the world we live in
And these are the hands we're given
Use them and let's start trying
To make it a place worth living in.

Ooh Superman where are you now
When everything's gone wrong somehow
The men of steel, the men of power
Are losing control by the hour.

This is the time
This is the place
So we look for the future
But there's not much love to go round
Tell me why, this is a land of confusion.

This is the world we live in
And these are the hands we're given
Use them and let's start trying
To make it a place worth living in.

I remember long ago -
Ooh when the sun was shining
Yes and the stars were bright
All through the night
And the sound of your laughter
As I held you tight
So long ago -

I won't be coming home tonight
My generation will put it right
We're not just making promises
That we know, we'll never keep.

Too many men
There's too many people
Making too many problems
And not much love to go round
Can't you see
This is a land of confusion.

Now this is the world we live in
And these are the hands we're given
Use them and let's start trying
To make it a place worth fighting for.

This is the world we live in
And these are the names we're given
Stand up and let's start showing
Just where our lives are going to.

To answer your question, Dee:

Unfortunately, there will always be someone, no matter where you go. For whatever reason, the sick minds of these people would prefer to kill innocent humans than not have the world their way. I don't know why, and really nobody does. However, we can hold out hope.

I don't know if the world will ever fall into peace - but we need to learn to live in peace- EVERYONE - that is - otherwise the world's going to be a horrible place.

I'm not sure that we ever will, but I think it is important to keep praying and hoping for peace and never giving up the hope that peace can be acheived. Thanks for sharing those songs Dee. And remember, one person can make a difference, as the song says "Let there be peace on earth and let it begin with me"

I pray that there will someday be peace but at the rate that the world is going who knows. It's really kinda scary. Thanks for posting those songs. They're so powerful especially Imagine. That has always been such an inspirational song to me. I too feel so strongly about wanting peace on this earth which I honestly believe is the reason why I love the Muppets as much as I do because they really do seem to advocate peace, love and harmony. Another song I look towards about peace that always brings tears to my eyes is Blowing in the Wind. I don't have all the lyrics to post right now but the chorus which also answers the question if there'll ever be peace goes "The answer my friend is blowng in the wind. The answer is blowing in the wind." :flirt:

I really don't think that there will be peace in anyone's time but I just hope that we can somehow reach a time without terrorism at least. Unfortunately it's probably not going to happen, it pretty much has the same flaw as Marxism - it involves humans displaying a hefty variety of human nature. Someone is always going to want more and someone is always want to annihilate those who don't agree with them.

Although the use of terrorism and sucide bombings etc... are a newer development in this sort of thing (or possibly not - the Gunpowder Plot...) the concept of using violence to recruit people into your country/faith or to obliterate those who don't conform to your ideals is ages old, the British Empire, the spread of Christianity, the Roman Empire, the American Civil War... I could go on. The difference is that today hundreds and thousands of innocent people are being killed on their own streets, in places they should be safe whereas previously all the killings were on battlefields.

It's a shame really but unless we start some kind of Brave New World and impose that on everyone (which would probably involve a world war in itself) then I rather think we're stuck with these uncertain times.

Here is an anti-war song written by I. Sinclair. It is sung by the Short Sisters on their CD, "A Little Gracefulness." In England, soldiers used to be offered a shilling as enticement for signing up. "Taking the shilling" became synonymous with enlisting. This song is useful to protest against modern war because even today, soldiers are still offered money for signing up only to get killed. I play it when I am against the war we are in.

The King's Shilling

Oh, my love has left me with bairnies 'twa
And that's the last of him I ever saw.
He joined the army and he marched awa'
He took the shilling
He took the shilling and he marched awa.

Chorus: So come, laddies, come, hear the cannons roar
Take the king's shilling and we're off to war.

Oh, he looked so proud and so gallant then
With his kilt and sporran and his musket gun
And the ladies kissed them as they marched awa
They sailed awa boys
They sailed awa boys by broomielaw.

Chorus

Oh, the pipes did play as they marched along
And the men they sang out their battle song
March on, march on, cried the captain gay
For king and country
For king and country we will fight this day

Chorus

Oh the battle echoed with the sound of guns
And the bayonets flashed in the morning sun
The drums did beat and the cannons roared
And the shilling didn't seem
The shilling didn't seem much worth it all.

Some lost the battle, their bodies fell
Cut down by bayonet and musket ball
And many of these brave young men
Will never fight for
Will never fight for their king again.

Chorus

Oh, my love has left me, with bairnies twa
And that's the last of him I ever saw
He joined the army and he marched awa'
He took the shilling
He took the shilling and it wasnae braw.

Chorus
