Elmo Muppeteer Kevin Clash resigns from Sesame Street

A truly sad day. Kevin was my mentor and I will always look up to him... no matter what anyone says. Ever.

How do I get a job as a Muppeteer?

Well said, Marky! As a part time puppeteer myself, I'm in total agreement with you. I also think that there's alot to be said for being at the right place at the right time. Seek the opportunities! You'd be surprised what a little determination, open ears and open eyes can bring you. Thom...

Any custom Muppet Mask makers out there?

We are a group of amateur costume makers that compete at DragonCon each year (except this year, we needed a break). We made Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem and performed "Can You Picture That". I was inside Dr. Teeth. He took over 100 man hours to make out of foam, fleece, pvc tubing, plastic...

Big Bird Book Signing ... I Can't Wait!

Monday In Atlanta Truly excited here in Atlanta. I had one chance when visiting New York to visit the set of Sesame Street. I had actually met most of the performers already and the one person I could not wait to meet was Mr. Spinney. And he wasn't there that day. So I was anticipating his...

Question about live hand puppet sleeves

There is a sleeve coming off the elbow of the puppet. The sleeve is the same fabric as the shirt/arm of the character (ie. the Swedish Chef has arm sleeves of white like the ones on his shirt, whereas Rowlf's sleeves are the same fabric as his fur). When that hand is pinned for some reason the...

    Desktop Contest Winners Announced!!

Second place! Yay! They picked three of my designs (out of five that I sent). They said they had a hard time picking which ones so they chose three. I told them about my experience on MFS and they want me to write a short story about my time on the movie and they're gonna put it up on the...

    Mouthplate Material

I've had real success with black suede leather. It's incredibly durable, thick to hold the shape and flexible for great expressions. The black is a good base for applying felt or foam material with hot glue to make details in the mouth. You may also want to try red if you prefer a red base.

    Crank Yankers

I must agree with Capt.Crouton. I believe there is room for puppets to break into prime time again with consideration to the current audience. Adult humor and puppets should be welcomed and embraced. But it's the Capt. who said it best: __________________________________________________ I...

    Crank Yankers

People didn't swear with puppets off camera during the filming of MFS because they new it was mundane. Why go for the cheap laugh? It doesn't show real skill. In fact, if I had done it, I would've looked amateur in front of the true professionals (Steve, Frank, Dave). There is no dignity in...

    Crank Yankers

You'd be surprised how much puppetry (including Muppets) is done to pre-recorded tracks. It is much more difficult as a puppeteer to "synch-up" with the recordings and you have to rehearse alot. One most notable show done this way is "Book of Pooh". scarylarrywolf - To answer your question, I...

    Crank Yankers

The shows are recordings of actors (?) calling prank calls in New York and Nevada (where it's not illegal to record phone conversations) and the puppeteers are just lipsynching the recordings to turn them into a skit. The puppeteers are not the ones generating the calls. They're just reinacting...

    Crank Yankers

    - scarylarrywolf: The puppeteers, from what I have seen hardly know what they're doing with a piece of fabric on their arms, and are spurred on with their performance only by their filthy humor... Please don't discredit the puppeteers. I have worked with a couple of them and they are some of...

    Crank Yankers

Let me say that I worked with BJ Guyer, who's one of the puppeteers on Crank Yankers, on Muppets From Space and he is a magnificent puppeteer! It's always good to see good puppeteers getting to do good work! For more behind the scenes pictures go to puppeteer Ronald Binion's page...
