Hello old friends!
It's been quite a long time since I've been active on this site. I check in from time to time, but I haven't been doing as much puppety as I once had until recently. So I thought I would share!
Last year I began an online comic strip about funny encounters my wife and I...
The "Sal" the Salmon mascot I built for a local non-profit is finally up on YouTube in the commercial I performed him for this summer! This is set to air on local cable in the next few weeks:

He also got on the local newspaper's website...
Hey all,
I put up some Henson ringtones on my webspace for anyone to download. I made them in Garageband for my iPhone. Since they're just 30 seconds, I figure it's not infringing on any copyrights since that's how long MP3 sellers preview songs for anyway...
Mahna Mahna...
Hey fellow builders/puppeteers. I just finished building and performing a 9-foot salmon puppet-costume and thought I'd share some photos with you all. My photo stream includes some scans of concept drawings, shots of the building process, and photos of the puppet on location...
I'm going to be making a large puppet out of hi-density foam, so since it will lack some flexibility I will need to cut some of my edges at 45º angles. Does anyone know if there is a tool or method out there to help cut accurately at this angle?
Thanks in advance!
I'm designing a large costume puppet that requires the use of a foam that is harder than your typical poly-foam.
I've used a large mascot mask before that was made of the material I'm looking for — I think it was referred to as "TB-40 Foam". You can carve it and paint it and it's a bit like...
I found an entry on findagrave.com saying Jim's ashes were scattered at his ranch in New Mexico. I've never read anything about Jim even setting foot in NM, let alone owning a ranch there.
Can anyone confirm the legitimacy of this entry? I'm doubting it...
I just finished re-covering a puppet I made a few years ago with better color and quality fleece. His name is Trex and he's a little dinosaur I use specifically for children's puppetry.
I juxtaposed some before & after shots of him for comparison. Comments/critiques are appreciated :)...
So we all know the difficulties of trying to find white plastic spheres at an ideal size for puppet eyes (unless you have been blessed with a vac-u-form). It's easy to just spray-paint anything white, but then you have to protect it from chipping.
I had a notion to get some clear plastic...
I don't know if anyone's from Seattle, or not, but my friend told me there's a Henson exhibit coming to the EMP in Seattle from May to August next year!

Hey friends!
I wanted to share a political satire puppet video I just completed with a puppet caricature I made of John McCain.

Any comments are appreciated! I'll try to put up some still shots of him later.
Thanks,

I found an article about a woman who has an amazing memory capability, and halfway through it says that her father was Jim's agent! It's a big stretch to post on this board, I know, but a fascinating read nonetheless.

Does anyone...
I sure suspect it.
I work for an ad company, and someone sent out this new Visa commercial they found. Do you think whoever made it has seen "Timepiece"?

Very suspicious...
My church is looking for a realistic baby puppet for a Christmas show — the kind you can "hold" (operate) with a blanket around your arm and the puppet's body. Anyone know where to buy one?
Thanks,
Hey, have any of you ever spilled contact cement on your carpet? Or worse — on your landlord's carpet?
Yeah... it's not good. The only advice on the back of the glue can was to use "mineral spirits" to remove it. Do you think turpinoid would work? Any help from experience or otherwise is...
I have this idea for a short puppet video in which I am considering making a dummy puppet that I can spray with lighter fluid and set on fire, parading it back and forth across the screen. Has anyone out there attempted this? If so, what was your method for keeping your arm from third degree...
Sooo... it's that time o' year again -- time to make New Year's resolutions and then break them a month later! Here's the catch: can you remember what your resolution was last year?
Here's mine...
2004: I resolved to gain 10 pounds. Either I don't eat enough, I have an over-active...
A childrens' educational DVD that I got to do some background puppeteering for has finally been released! :) It's called "Brain Candy" -- a playful yet thorough presentation of the five senses.
Check out more at www.braincandykids.com, or go to Amazon and type "braincandy" in the DVD...
