Yogi Bear and Huckleberry Hound puppets

What an awesome find! One of these days I'm making a Huckleberry Hound puppet, the idea was always in the back of my head.

    Dyeing fabric

FYI, polyester based fabrics don't dye well at all... (Yes, I learned the hard way... sigh)

    Revealing Stitching

But what about this "wax" Stacey mentioned? Anything that strengthens my seams and prolongs the lifespan of the puppet seems like a good idea. Edit: Sorta answering my own question here slightly (amazing what a bit of research does...) From This site: And from this one: Just in case anyone...

    New Sheep Puppet on Ebay

Nice... I have some of that "fur" and was contemplating a lamb puppet for the spring season, beat me to the punch. Yours turned out great, the eyes are very expressive!

    Revealing Stitching

I too would like to hear of this "wax" of which you speak... for I am a caveman and your world of thread wax and ladder stitches is far too adavnced for my simple mind. Prior to puppet building my sewing skills were non-existant, and I never took Home Economics.... How much of a difference does...

Puppet Patterns: What's A Fair Price?

The smurf in my avatar is actually made from the Simple Series Pinhead pattern. I own most of the Project Puppet Patterns, and I get the most milage out of the Roly and Pinhead patterns. I have ~never~ been dissapointed in anything I ordered from PP. The end result is what you put into it. These...

    How to start making puppets?

Most of the fleece covered puppets I make I end up using what the guy at the auto upholstery place calls "scrim"... It's pretty much the same thing you've gotten. 1/2" thick with a thin fabric backing. He sells it to me for around the same price, 12 to 13 bucks a yard. In my experience it's...

    How to start making puppets?

Well, the Pinhead is in the "simple" series... and the "sock" of the puppet is used as the body (you could make a simple foam body for it, but imo the sock works just as well)... The Punto is more complex to build, it is indeed made from sheets of foam cut and glued together rather than carving...

    How to start making puppets?

Project Puppet is defiantely worthwhile... start small, try one of the simple series. I'd recommend the Roly or the Pinhead pattern. A lot of great characters can be made from those two basic shapes. If price is an issue, the Glorified Sock Puppet pattern is the cheapest design... and is the...

    The Foam Book

I use both, and while the Foam Book is great reference material, it really is more of a fly by the seat of your pants approach. If you've never built a puppet (muppet-style) then Project Puppet is where I would recommend starting. Working with those patterns can go a long way towards teaching...

The FUTURE of puppetry in Television!

I gotta agree with Toasty... In this day and age, primetime really is as antiquated as the term "Saturday Morning Lineup"... The landscape has changed a lot since the days the Muppet Show aired, and to yearn for a return of those days just really isn't feasible. Creators should explore the new...

Contact Cement on Mouthplate Pattern PROBLEM!

Hot glue the sucker... cheap hot glue gun will run you maybe $3 dollars (US) at Walmart... and a small bag of glue sticks another $3 to $4 bucks. Hot glue. It's the puppet builders version of duct tape.

    The Monstro Pattern

Just got mine in the mail today, been looking it over since I got home from work. Overall a great presentation... Instructions are detailed and intuitive, just what we've come to expect from Project Puppet. What I was unsure of was if this pattern would be all that different from the others...

    eye lid mechanism

Never be afraid to try something new... experimentation is essential to innovation. There's been several attempts since I picked up this hobby that have failed miserably for me... but each one taught me something new that improved my next project. So that pile of discarded puppet carcases in...
