-A Link to the Past-

Link Hogthrob, that bespectacled lad of 15, certainly was an interesting fellow.
His hair was hardly ever found unmatted, and was a curious shade of yellow.
From his crooked bow tie, to his knee-high socks,
Link Hogthrob was a nerd, as defined by the jocks.
But never a more clever Hogthrob was there!
In fact, he and Einstein would have made quite a pair.
Intrgued with mathematics, the arts and with science,
He was often an outcast, one without alliance.
His primary interest was with all great art.
Painting and music flooded his little pig heart.
He once had his own work displayed in a gallery,
Not that it would have produced much of a salary.
But money doesn't matter as long as you're happy.
"But I'm not happy," said Link, which was sappy.
For all Link's talent and wit, and all he had within,
He thought none of it mattered if he didn't fit in.
Despite all the interesting things one might create,
If you're not accepted, then you're nothing great.
This is the way that the world's always been.
Nothing else matters besides fitting in.
"So, who am I," Link said, "to change history?
If I must be like them, like them I will be."
But try as he might, and try as he did,
No one could tell he was more than just some nerdy kid.
But Link was persistant, he tried all the more.
"One day they'll like me. Soon they won't ignore."
In Link's quest to be "better," in his desire to please,
His school work was neglected, all his "A's" turned to "D's".
Soon there were no more music or art classes,
And though he couldn't see, Link destroyed his new glasses.
He joined in their traditions, after each football victory,
They would vandalize the town, to show team spirit, you see.
Despite all of this, and despite Link's nearly being booked,
How disappointing it was to know Link was still overlooked.
Though he now did all the things "normal" kids do,
Link went unnoticed as before, and he hadn't a clue.
"How could this be?" Link asked with no grin,
For nothing else matters besides fitting in.
Depressed and rejected, Link sat in the playground
To ponder on why he wasn't wanted around.
While he sat thinking, a difficult thing at this stage,
He wondered how he could escape his metaphorical cage. <--- (not his words exactly)
Just then, without warning, what did he see?
"Why," Link explained, "a football has rolled up next to me!"
The jocks called over for link to return the ball,
So Link threw it to them, and gave it his all.
There was never a farther football thrown,
Not without steroids to make men full-grown (and groan).
Link Hogthrob had finally reached his dream.
He was called right over to join the team.
Link was in all sports, from football to track.
As for his old ways, Link never looked back.
"After all," Link said, "who am I to change history?
If I must be like them, then like them I will be."
Despite all the wonderous things one might do,
If you're not accepted, then you're nothing new.
This is the way that the world's always been.
Nothing else matters besides fitting in.
