Well the plan last time a TV series was talked about was indeed a version of the TMS format with a few updated touches.

Guest like Justin Timberlake, Britney Spears, Jim Carrey, Will Ferrell, Charlize Theron and Weird AL would proably bring good ratings.

Julia Roberts seems so far to be the only guest stars that aren't fly-by-night popular, though. I don't think any of the others could float well as classic enough people to be timeless enough to create the same impact that 95% of TMS had. There were several of the guests on TMS that really placed a timeline on that show with guest stars who are neither memorable or worth remembering; in this case, some of those listed fit that bill to me as being not memorable enough to fool with.

I'd also like to see Drew Barrymore, Julie Andrews and Steve Martin as guest stars. It would be interesting to compare new guest spots with Julie's and Steve's TMS appearances.

I would say :-

Britney Spears
Star Wars #2 - Natalie Portman, R2D2, C3PO
Andy Dick
Ozzy Osbourne & The Osbourne Family
Madonna
Rowan Atkinson as Mr Bean
John Cleese (again)
Elton John (again)
Jim Carrey
Frank Oz (how wierd would THAT be)
Melissa Joan Hart & Salem
Kelsey Grammar & David Hyde Pierce
Simon Cowell - Muppets think he is there to spot talent, they all fall over themselves to impress him.
Robin Williams
Will Ferrell
Martin Sheen (as the president of the USA) - All the Muppets think the Pres is visiting
Danny Devito
The Rock (Gonzo wants to wrestle him in the finale but he's just come on to promote a movie)
Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter) - Muppets restage the movie with themselves in the roles.

I spent the other day at work thinking up ideas for a new TMS (and building on old ideas), specifically actors with musical ability.

From "Chicago":
Renee Zellweger (developing a fanfic)
John C. Reilly
Catherine Zeta-Jones (husband and wife show with Michael Douglas?)
Richard Gere
Queen Latifah

From "Moulin Rouge":
Nicole Kidman (but oy, that schedule of hers)
Ewan McGregor

(Apparently Jim Broadbent was dubbed; don't know if John Leguizamo sings, but if he doesn't it sure is a waste of flamboyance)

Others who are singers:
Kate Winslet
Kelsey Grammer (this could be so great)
Alfred Molina (currently starring in "Fiddler on the Roof" on Broadway)
Robin Williams
Russell Crowe
Gwyneth Paltrow
Eugene Levy
Michael McKean (Christopher Guest has helped him to a career renaissance)
Judi Dench
Kevin Spacey
J-Lo (not the best actress, but she's musical anyway)
Adam Sandler (but do we really want to see this? I for one don't.)
Will Ferrell (though personally I'm not a big fan of his; good singer tho)
Stockard Channing (career boom with West Wing, was in Mr. Willoughby's Christmas Tree TV special from the Muppets)
Tim Conway (he would've been great on the original, why not use him?)
Rodney Dangerfield (same thing)
Alan Alda (still working, still doing a lot actually)

Other folks they ought to get/could get:
Jennifer Connelly (remember Labyrinth? Often I've wondered if she'd ever work with the Muppets again. Now that she's won the Oscar, maybe she could give them a boost.)
Julia Roberts
Jack Nicholson (don't we wish; okay, don't I wish?)
Robert De Niro (he's been slumming in comedies and action movies, it's not like he's as intangible as he was in his and TMS's heyday, in other words he's not too 'big' for it)
Johnny Depp (be interesting if they could; it could be like the Peter Sellers episode where they're letting him play all these wild characters throughout)
Jim Carrey (he sings too, I guess)
Ben Stiller
Mike Myers (maybe)
Dana Carvey (he could use a break)
David Arquette (you know he would love this, what with all his involvement with the Muppets already)
Salma Hayek
George Clooney
Geoffrey Rush
William H. Macy
Peter MacNicol
Leslie Nielsen (I *think* he sings too; he was in Mr. Willoughby's Christmas Tree, too)
Peter Falk
*Someone from "Everybody Loves Raymond" (probably Brad Garrett or one of the parents)

More as I think of them.

Thought of some more famous people who sing:

From X-Men
Hugh Jackman
Patrick Stewart (also would bring the Star Trek fanbase)
Ian McKellen (also would bring Lord of the Rings fan base)
James Marsden

Kelly Hu from X2 said that Jackman, Stewart, McKellen and Marsden would often go around singing show tunes. They did it so much that she often felt like she was in "X-Men: The Musical". Now wouldn't THAT be something to see?

Others:
Billy Boyd (Pippin from Lord of the Rings, also featured in "Master & Commander")
Jeremy Northam
Danny DeVito
