Did the FR characters really end understanding each other?

Well sometimes I can get upset because tree are hard things in life and people don't understand me.

We all know why the fraggles, the doozers and the gorgs don't understand each other.

Do the fraggels understand each other? ( even the Fraggle 5!)

Can the doozers understand each other?

    Even the gorgs?

Why do you say they don't understand each other? I know in the beginning it's that way but I kind of got the idea near the end at least they they came to a basic understanding of eahc other (okay so maybe not the Gorgs/Doozers but I think that's partly because I don't think the Gorgs and Doozers really know that the other exists)

The Gorgs definitely didn't know about the Doozers, but apparently Cotterpin knew that radishes came from the Gorgs' garden (though perhaps the Fraggles told her that, hehe).

I believe Fraggles understand each other, and so do the Doozers. Junior understands pretty well about the universe, but Pa I don't think cares enough to learn.

I think the most understanding Fraggles are Mokey and Wembley. They're always ready to listen to anyone that needs them whether they are Gorg, Doozer, or Fraggle..

I used to think the same thing. However, I realized that Pa actually knew a lot. It's only that he became comfortable with the knowledge that may have been more relevant when he was younger and never really updated his viewpoints. Pa and Ma treat Fraggles like pests, but that makes you wonder why there's a "tradition" of using Fraggles for Gorg coronation ceremonies. One wonders what happened in the interim (assuming the legend is accurate). I think Gorgs had a much more integrated viewpoint and as at least Ma and Pa began their quasi-retirement, they just settled into a rut that made them both unhappy. Junior is compared a lot, both verbally and visually with Gorgus the Great.

I think the real issue with Pa is that for whatever reason (battles, perhaps?), Pa just wanted to be left alone. He liked the stability of his garden and resented having to live up to the legend of Gorgus, as that would mean more work. Maybe his "war wounds" were imaginary for pity's sake, but the castle is chock full of military gear and that big ol' painting of a battle map on the wall. If he's suffering from the horrors of war, a lot of his personality would make sense. Perhaps Gorgs tried to continue to live in an integrated way, but the other parties started to become more belligerent, forcing Gorgs out. Pa decided to leave all that foolishness behind him and settle down in some quiet nook in the Universe. It's not that he doesn't understand ... he just doesn't want to be reminded of what Gorgs used to be because it forces him to acknowledge he let a glorious past slip by.

I feel like Pa Gorg is what they call a victim of bad programming. He probably is very intelligent but he's been taught to think he always has to be right and always has to have the upper hand. Which occasionally means he has to close his mind to ideas that don't fit in line with that way of thinking (i.e. the universe works fine without having a ruler).

The funny thing is (I will try my best not to let this rant get out of hand), how would they know? For as long as they can remember, there's either been Hubris or a Gorg King of the Universe. What evidence suggests no need for monarchy? There's never been a time they can think of where there WASN'T a king of some sort!

    *could go on for daaaaaaays*
  9. heralde Well-Known Member

Well I think the idea was that the Fraggles were open enough to notice a talking trash heap that provided them with wisdom, whereas the Gorgs were less inclined to seek wisdom outside of their circle.

Well, you also have to take into consideration that there wasn't really anything for the Gorg to rule. It'd be like my dad saying he was king of the area our house is on. That's all well and good but superfluous. Maybe at some point (perhaps in the interim as Red put it) there was enough of a "realm" to be ruled over. Then after time it was just you ruled for what ever reason, perhaps out of duty to Sir Hubris or maybe with the hopes that they'd get subjects at sometime.

I want to say that in "Wembley and the Gorgs" they got kinda close to understanding or integration. They seemed to be genuinely enjoying Wembley's company and he theirs. The problems arose when 1) Gobo poked Pa with that sword and 2) when the Gorgs thought it would work to force the Fraggles to be subjects. That last part reminds me of when we're kids and we have friends and so we think that since one person's our friend, their friends should be our friends but if they don't want to be we try to force it.

That's a very good point. I think it's because there are no other gorgs around, and Fraggles seem to be the only characters they can communicate with.

    That's true!

Oh I just thought while most Fraggles understand each other, for some unknown reason Uncle Gobo is not very nice to Matt. I never understood why he treats Matt like that!
  18. Collgoff Well-Known Member

    I don't understand that ether Dominicboo1!
  19. Dominicboo1 Well-Known Member

Yeah since Matt pratically worships the ground Uncle Gobo walks upon, it makes absolutely no sense!
  20. Collgoff Well-Known Member

Yes that's true even Uncle Gobo was nicer to Marly the girl Fraggle!
    Remember?
