"Crank Yankers???"

Ewwwww! Okay, I know my teen-aged son loves to watch this once in a blue moon, but still...ewwww!

Which show are they pulling? Lions, Bear or Seame? Because none of them are heading out (that I know of) in my area.

The youngest here is 10, and he enjoys Lions. None of us are really crazy about Sesame Street anymore (it's more "The Elmo Show" these days, or at least on any day that we watch it, and no, we aren't Elmo fans...oh, for the olden days of SS with Kermit, Clara, Snuffy and Forgetful!), but we all love Bear...okay, we love Pip and Pop and Bear himself...Tutter and Ojo can be kind of annoying, as can Shadow...Oh, help! Are we growing up??

Luke, wasn't Scorch a scream? We had written to Ronn Lucas a couple years ago and asked about getting the Scorch dolls he had online for sale (we asked if we could pay by check instead of credit card because we didn't OWN a credit card!), and when he sent the TALKING Scorch dolls (we love them!!), he was SO NICE and also sent us a tape of some of his shows (including his Presidental appearance with Ronald Regan and his Royal appearance with the Queen) and a tape of THREE UNSEEN SCORCH shows! Plus he sent three autographed photos of himself to the boys and me. Now THAT is a VERY nice man!

I swear, if I EVER get to Las Vegas, I am going to the Rio Hotel and Casino and paying whatever it takes to sit front row and cheer this man, hold up his dolls, his photos and the tapes and then kiss his feet in gratitude!

Well, maybe I'll kiss Scorch's feet...or Buffalo Billy's feet... :flirt:

I just said that Lions and Bear were cancelled. Come on people, get with the acronyms.

Cut some of us "old" people some slack, FellowWLover! Not all of us are acronym-literate, you know...

I prefer that people use some kind of words instead of always using acronyms or computer shortcuts when writing messages. Lets them know exactly what you are saying, doesn't get them confused (like me, sometimes) about what you mean and doesn't cause them to have to delve deeply into their brains trying to figure out what the heck all the various initials mean in messages (I really have a time with some...I STILL haven't figured out what gmmc means, although I have gotten that the last "mc" means Muppet Central...)

Forgive me if I offended you by asking which of the shows you meant; thank you for verifying, although a little sarcastically...

Um... you didn't offend me, but clearly I offended *you*. Sorry 'bout that. Once again, I left out the little "wink-wink" face meant to show that I was smiling while typing.

And for the record, I bet I am close to, if not as, old as you are. Let me give you a hint about the acronyms... usually, they are just the first letter of each word, making Bear in the Big Blue House = BITBBH and Between the Lions = BTL.

I think the TV show 'Bear In The Big Blue House' was cancelled a while back. That applies to new stuff being made - so you'll still see the stage shows and re-runs - maybe even some merchandise. Basically they have enough of the shows already made to continue it as a brand without having to make new ones.

I hope that we see more shows in the future with puppets.

Remember EUREKA'S CASTLE? There are just some things in puppetry that cannot be accomplished through animation, no matter how hard the artist(s) try(s). The characters in that show were just so great & memorable; it would have definately been different if they were drawn.

Who here remembers The Great Space Coaster?

"There's no gnews like Gary Gnu's."

I even remember a little of the theme song....

It's the Great Space Coaster,
Get on board,
On th Great Space Coaster,
Off we go.....
Get on board,
Step inside,
Tune in, for a magic ride.
Soaring to the other side
Where only rainbows hide.

I think that's how it went :smirk:

I do remember The Great Space Coaster! It was OK, but not one of my personal favourites. I liked the Gary Gnu segments though. They would always be introduced by another character from the show who would say "and now for something REALLY
'g-new'...here's Gary Gnu!" And if I recall correctly, he used to pronounce every 'n' word with a 'g' before it like "that's g-not, g-nice it's a lot of g-nonsense" Though he actually looked nothing like a gnu, except for the goatee on his chin. Other puppet characters I remember were a female bird-like character that looked sort of like a cross between a flamingo and a duck. I think her name was "knock-knock" because she liked to tell knock-knock jokes. There was also a big full body sized one with a white head and a small red nose who I think was named "Baxter" and a wise-cracking baboon named "Goriddle" (my spelling has gotta be wrong on that one) who now that I think of it, was performed by none other than Kevin Clash during his pre-muppet days. Can anyone confirm this, as I don't think the internet movie database has an entry for this show.
