GelflingWaldo, don't be so bloody serious.
I've posted a newer, better, more complete edition of this pipe dream of mine over in the Classic Muppets forum. If it happened, I think any Muppet fan would fall down of shock.
I REALLY REALLY REALLY want MT! on DVD, and this could be the only way to do it. If you eliminate Big Bag, SS and Gorch, this could be doable between Disney and HIT!...
And if an animated "Fraggle Rock" was such a travesty (oh, and it was) then why is the torrid, uninspired, horrible, wretched Muppet Babies any better? I hate the show. It's almost as bad as... well, "Big Bag" (which I only included above for the hard core fans) or the animated "Fraggle Rock", or "Mother Goose Stories". (I only used Henson productions here, because you cannot compare a Henson production but to another.)
Muppet Babies is an awesome movie, which took the Muppets to a knew hight and had more seasons than any other Henson production including The Muppet Show. It deserves a palce on the shelves beside the others.
I like to see the Muppet Movies presented in OAR(Original Aspect Ratio), more specifically a Muppet Christmas Carol and a Muppet Treasure Island. Give me my widescreen version!!! They should produce a box set including all the movies and then tons of special features, it's possible to get the rights from Columbia it's been done for other box sets.
From Gelfing Waldo:
"Parts of "The Jim Henson Hour" are coming to DVD (or already are on DVD), but sadly with the ownership split full intact-episodes are not likely ever."
What parts are comming to DVD?? what parts already are?
This is complete news to me.
"Storyteller" is already out on DVD, both "Greek Myths" and "Complete Collection."
ok I'll give you storyteller, but what else? Or what else is comming?
I hope the rest comes along, I've seen tapes of JHH and thought it was a very well done show.
My wish is for the DVDs to have subtitles!
I am happy that Follow That Bird is on DVD but am disappointed that it doesn't have more bonus material. It has a trailer but it is pretty mediocre. Anyone who has seen it probably knows what I mean. I would like to see more behind the scenes/making of stuff. Interviews with Carroll Spinney, Frank Oz, Marty Robinson, Jerry Nelson, and Joan Ganz Cooney would be cool. Also, interviews with Sonia Manzano, Roscoe Orman and Linda Bove.
These are any Henson-related DVDs I'd love:
- The Muppet Movie, Great Muppet Caper, and Muppets Take Manhattan with better DVD releases than the ones already released
- Muppet Christmas Carol and Muppet Treasure Island in WIDESCREEN format (the menus and special features are already great though)
- Every season of the Muppet Show in DVD box sets (can't wait for season one! )
- All of Dinosaurs
- Muppets Tonight!
- Jim Henson hour
and anything else Muppety I forgot
I would like it if henson and disney (and possibly hit entertainment, if nessessary) would make a special deal to release every episode of the jim henson hour, uncut and in their original one-hour forms, with show promos (there was a really good one with jim henson talking about the show, which was shown during a commercial break during sesame street: 20.. and still counting) and talk show interviews regarding the show (there was atoday show interview on the day of the shows broadcast).
otherwise, I would be happy if disney released the following:
the jim henson hour: the complete muppetelevision (2-disc set)
first four muppetelevision episodes (science fiction, aquatic life, monster telethon and the ratings game)
commentary on: the ratings game and monster telethon
interview with jerry juhl
deleted/ alterd scenes and outtakes
bonus special: miss piggys hollywood
original pilot: innertube
final four muppetelevision episodes (garbage, health and fitness, musicians, and food)
audio commentary on: musicians
bonus special: the secrets of the muppets
easter egg: dog city pre-show
deleted/ altered scenes and outtakes
the DVD cover would be the picture of jim henson standing next to a tv with kermit and some of the new characters, seen in jim henson: the works. if it was possible for a deal to be made to have all of the shows in their original one-hour orms, then it should include all of the features listed for the muppetelevision set and the other features i mentioned above, and it would be a four-disc set, with 4-5 episodes per disc.
here is what I would want on a four-disc set of muppets tonight, featuring the entire series:
all episodes in broadcast order
muppet morsels on every episode
audio commentary either on every episode, or on the following episodes: michelle phieffer, garth brooks, cindy crawford, jason alexander, heather locklear, the artist formerly known as prince, the cameo show and johnny fiama leaves home.
u.k. spots on each episode.
and here is what I want on each disc (besides what was mentioned):
disc 1: animated menus hosted by kermit the frog
interview with brian henson
interview with clifford
show promos and TGIf bumpers
disc 2: animated menus hosted by clifford
interview with gonzo and rizzo.
disc 3: animated menus hosted by seymour and pepe
interviews with andy and randy, seymour and pepe, and johnny fiama and sal
new featurette: "the new muppets of muppets tonight"
disc 4: animated menus hosted by johnny fiama and sal
interview with bill barretta
disney channel promos
series production notes
that would be decent
besides what i listed for the jim henson hour and muppets tonight, and besides every season of the muppet show, and besides EVERYTHING! (from the muppets), here is what else I would want.
the 1985 muppet show playhouse video compilations
the jim henson play-along videos
every season of muppet babies
every season of dinosaurs
the muppets at walt disney world
the muppets celebrate jim henson
the muppets: a celebration of thirty years
all unsold henson pilots, including ones that us fans probably don't know about
every surviving episode of sam and friends
the great santa clause switch, with the five ed sullivan sketches not included on the Muppets Magic dvd as bonus features.
saturday night live: the best of the muppets
a four-disc collection of sesame street inserts
follow-ups to the best of ernie and bert, the best of kermit on sesame street, cookie monsters best bites, and a celebration of me, grover!, as well as a video on the best of the count, monsterpiece theatre and sesame street game shows
julie on sesame street, a special sesame street christmas, out to lunch, the grover monster/ jeaan marsh cartoon special, a walking tour of sesame street, big birds birthday and stars ad streets forever
and the best of rowlf on the jimmy dean show
All episodes of The Storyteller, including the ones from The Jim Henson Hour, already are availible on DVD. The Dog City episode (minus the opening, the pre-show sequence, and possibly Jim Hensons closing if there was one) is availible on DVD in the united Kingdom (but not the United States ). I don't know if there are plans for anything else from The Jim Henson Hour to be released.
tales from Muppet land
here is what I would want on a 2-disc Tales From Muppetland set:
The Frog Prince (with commentary by Jerry Juhl)

The Muppet Musicians of Bremen
Tales of the Tinkerdee (with commentary by Jerry Juhl and Jane Henson)
land of Tinkerdee
original scripts and storyboards
unproduced material (concept sketches for unproduced specials, pilot ideas, and more)
promotional material (including TV commercials for the specials)
The Muppet Movie
Here is what I would want on a 2-disc special addition of The Muppet Movie.
audio commentary #1: Jerry Juhl, Brian Henson, paul Williams, Kenny Ascher (if he is still alive), Craig Sherman, Karen Falk and James Frawlry
audio commentary #2: Frank Oz, Dave Goelz, Jerry Nelson, Steve Whitmire and Kathy Mullen
audio commentary #3: kermit the frog, miss piggy, fozzie bear, gonzo, statler and waldorf.
talk show interviews with Jim Henson
original theatrical trailer

the same Muppet Morsels and Commentaries found on disc 1
Full frame version

Audio Commentary by Frank Oz, Dave Goelz, Jerry Nelson, Steve Whitmire, Kathy Mullen, Brian Henson and Jerry Juhl

Full Frame presentation
interview with kermit, fozzie and gonzo
interview with Jerry Juhl (hosted by Gonzo)
The great Muppet Caper trivia game
storyboards for unproduced scenes
the muppets take manhattan
Finally (for now), here is my list of features for a two-disc special edition of The muppets take manhattan. Since Sony owns the distribution rights, they would probably need to make a deal with Disney for some of the following features.
Commentary by Frank oz
alternate languages/ subtitles (I forgot to include this in my list of features for the other DVD wishlists)
original theatrical trailer
music video: "I'm Gonna Always Love You"
interview with frank oz (possibly hosted by either miss piggy or fozzie bear... with eric jacopson performing his characters, frank oz can interact with his own characters)
all-new mocumentary: the making of manhattan Melodies
all-new featurette: the wedding of the century!
interviews with Jim Henson
all-new featurette: how the rats cooked dinner
all-new mockumentary: The Muppets New Jobs
Separate names with a comma.
