...Just not in the form one might initially expect!

Well, i can't believe i'm actually the first person to break the news! But in turns out that in between all the excitement of Red making a live appearance at the latest Comic-Con and some more updates on Boom!'s upcoming Muppet comic book, that perhaps the biggest Henson news to emerge from the con got a little overshadowed and slipped under the radar...

But in turns out that Boom! is also working on an upcoming Farscape title (this along with their involvement with the Muppet comic had already been known for awhile) but it was revealed at the con that not only would the upcoming Farscape comic be written by series creator Rockne S O'Bannon himself, but that O'Bannon is treating his work for the comic as not only "canon" but also going so far as to call it Farscape Season five.

We've known that there will be some Farscape webisodes coming up, but according to O'Bannon, the comic will serve as a bridge between Farscape: PK Wars and the webisodes introducing characters that will then turn up in the webisodes. O'Bannon jumped at the chance to further the Farscape story in comic form noting that this particular medium allows him to tell stories that aren't always possible to do in the form of tv/film given their budgets and logistics, giving as an example that a return to Hyneria for Rygel to reclaim his throne has long been something he's wanted to do but it was always hard enough to do a scene with two Hynerians (with five operators each) much less a planet of them. PK Wars was written in a way to provide closure if it turned out to be the last Farscape project, but open-ended for the story to continue if the opportunity presented itself - and now with the comic and the webisodes, we get to see the characters get to realize some of their as-of-yet unrealized goals/missions.

While Farscape is not new to printed media - it's been adopted in three novels, a role playing book, short stories in Farscape magazine and a previous two issue comic book by another company, this is the first time any Farscape's printed stories were being given the official stamp of being canon with the series. The closest thing we've previously been given was a short story in Farscape Magazine's last issue which took place years in the future after the last episode of Farscape (also written by O'Bannon) to provide a sense of closure and wrapping things up before the team was given the opportunity to do the PK Wars miniseries - when PK Wars did eventually air, the magazine short story could no longer be considered canon due to inconsistencies with the miniseries (such as the name of John and Aeryn's firstborn and characters still being alive that met their fate in the movie). The new comic will take place immediately after where PK Wars left off.

That's really neat  I'm glad that more of the story of Moya and its crew will be able to be told!
