What's your favourite muppet song/songs ever.

    Mine are:

    #1 Movin Right Along
    #2 Can you Picture That
    #3 Manah Manah
    #4 The Tomorrow Song
    #5 Rubber Duckie

Of course the muppetshow theme song comes in the ultimate no1 for me, but these are exept the theme song

the muppet movie soundtrack is so hard to beat. movin right along and the rainbow connection reprise/magic box always are so great. of note, fraggle rock has probably the next best if not more emotional best songs...every morning/every day, magic be with you, etc.

sad how no electric mayhem songs have been released on cd yet:(

Hmmm....I know a few years back, Phil and other regulars had a poll on the most popular tracks of all time; it was put together to try to get Henson to release a boxed set of the best Muppet music. I remember that Rainbow Connection came in first.

That would be my fav, along with the Fraggle Rock theme. Plus, there are so many other fantastic Fraggle songs, I couldn't really rank them (especially some great ones from the final season alone!).

Lemme see. I'm assuming that Sesame Street songs are counting here. They'd better because:

    01. I Don't Want To Live On The Moon (my favorite song ever, honestly)
    02. If I Were
    03. Something's Missing
    04. The Frogs In The Glen
    05. The Rainbow Connection
    06. I'm Going To Go Back There Someday
    07. Dance Myself To Sleep
    08. Fuzzy And Blue
    09. Grouch Anthem
    10. Captain Vegetable or What's The Name Of That Song? (tie)

That's a pretty rough list. I'd have to think that through. It looks good, though. I'm still fuzzy on Something's Missing (the UK song from the Rudolph Nureyev show), whether it's an original or not. I can't locate it otherwise. Any help, anyone?

And I'm leaving out, because it's not a song, per se, the music played over the Sesame Street about how crayons are created...anyone remember that? I have a homemade mp3 I love it so much. Amazing.

If you don't know the names of any of these songs, try http://home.nc.rr.com/muppetsongs

    Good night everyone!

I think my favourite muppet song is 'Happy Feet' just because it is so clever. On the Of Muppets and Men documentary Henson says how they are playing a game with the viewer - trying to create a reality that doesn't really exist and they really suceed with this one...

Think about it - a tap dancing song where the performer doesn't really have any legs. In fact, through the whole song you never see Kermit's feet at all - it is completely shot above the waist, yet the way that Kermit moves is so realistic and so in time with the track that it is amazing....

Do you think I've gone on about this a bit too much? Oh well, somebody stop me!

So just to recap, my favourite is 'Happy Feet' - although as this is a cover does it really count?

I have to go with "Just One Person" from 'The Muppets Celebrate Jim Henson'.
The discussion right before they begin singing always makes me cry, but the song uplifts you right afterwards.

mine would have to be (in no particular order)

-i'm going to go back there someday (the muppet movie)
-i hope that something better comes along (the muppet movie)
-hey a movie (the great muppet caper)
-happiness hotel (the great muppet caper)
-saying goodbye (the muppets take manhattan)
-always love you (the muppets take manhattan)
-scrooge song (the muppet christmas carol)
-marley & marley (the muppet christmas carol)
-who do you think you're foolin' (muppet classic theater)
-gotta get that name (muppet classic theater)
    -something better (muppet treasure island)
    -cabin fever (muppet treasure island)
-seymoure and pepe's theme (muppets tonight!)

    Hey GuySmiley,

Have you ever heard Statler & Waldorf's comments on "Happy Feet" on the Muppet Show Vol. 2 LP (can't remember if they have any comments after Kermit performs it on the show)? It goes something like this:

Waldorf: You know, on the show that wasn't funny.
    Statler: True, true.
Waldor: But on a record it doesn't even make sense!

You discussion about the song made me think of that, 'cause it's kinda true!

My favoites have to be seperated by show, and can't be put into particular order

    The Muppet Show
    Bein' Green
    Mahna Mahna
    Lime in the Coconut
    Onions always make me cry
Lady of Spain on the Muppaphone
    In the Navy

    Muppet Movies
    Movin' Right Along
I hope that something Better comes along
    Rainbow Connection
Bert and Ernie's upside down song from "Follow that Bird"
    Cabin Fever
    Happiness Hotel

    Sesame Street

What's the name of that song? (The Bert and Ernie version was the best, but I also like the Forgetful John one.)
abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz (Y'know when Big Bird sings them all as one big word)
Cooperation makes it happen (dig it)
    Wubba Wubba
    Carribean Amphibian
    Alphabet in the Swamp
    I dance myself to Sleep

    Other Shows
    Theme from Fraggle Rock
Pukka Pukka Squeedly Boink (Wembly's singing is so funny)
I'm the Baby Gotta Love Me
Kermit singing "Same as it ever was" on Muppets Tonight.

Sorry for the delayed reply but i've had a lot of things on my plate this last month...am finally catching up on some threads...

Even though i don't think it ultimately matters if they're "true" Muppet songs or not (esp since the original poster included Mahna Mahna), but since you asked about Something's Missing, it was a song written by someone other than the Muppet team. (Paul Tracy)

Paul Tracy, eh? Was it ever recorded by any other artist? Paul Tracy himself, perhaps? I'm rather lacking in knowledge about it and starvingly curious. It's a wonderful song. Still, good to know, and thank you!

This is a fraggle song but hey they are still Muppets....

    Petals of a Rose

    and Junior Gorg's Universe...

I know the universe is everywhere
It's full of radishes and things
    It's full of air
But when I try to understand
    I always wonder in despair
How wide, how far, how real...it is

    And if the universe
    Is made like me
It must get lonely in the dark
    And ask for tea
    And is there anybody here
That really knows just how to see
How wide, how far, how real...it is

    The universe is real
    But no one will reveal
    How wide, how real...it is.

Great song Jackie. In my opinion it was one of Richard Hunt's best moments.

I'm so excited that they're releasing a new Muppet cd (who let the frogs out) bc it has some of my all time favorites on there--Rainbow Connection, Happiness Hotel, etc..
Also, even though its not exactly Muppets, its still Henson, I like 'Magic Dance', 'Chilly Down', and 'Underground' from Labyrinth.
  16. gymkatarules

    gymkatarules Well-Known Member

Yeah, Labyrinth is Henson, but when I think of Labyrinth I think of Bowie. As The World Falls Down is amazing and so is David Bowie.

    1) The rainbow connection
    2) If just 1 person believes in you
    3) Its not easy being Green

Any other song that has a beautiful meaning.

See, there really is a lovely side to me.

    - Mahna Mahna
    - Onions
    - Hawaiian War Chant
    - Dance Myself to Sleep
    - I Don't want to live on the moon
    - Do De Duck
    - Elephant Elevator Operator

    Yes I truly agree :)

    But you sure can't beat:

"Look buddy, I don't take my clothes off for anybody, even if it is 'artistic.' "
