the muppet movie soundtrack is so hard to beat. movin right along and the rainbow connection reprise/magic box always are so great. of note, fraggle rock has probably the next best if not more emotional best songs...every morning/every day, magic be with you, etc.

sad how no electric mayhem songs have been released on cd yet:frown:

Hmmm....I know a few years back, Phil and other regulars had a poll on the most popular tracks of all time; it was put together to try to get Henson to release a boxed set of the best Muppet music. I remember that Rainbow Connection came in first.

That would be my fav, along with the Fraggle Rock theme. Plus, there are so many other fantastic Fraggle songs, I couldn't really rank them (especially some great ones from the final season alone!).

Lemme see. I'm assuming that Sesame Street songs are counting here. They'd better because:

01. I Don't Want To Live On The Moon (my favorite song ever, honestly)
02. If I Were
03. Something's Missing
04. The Frogs In The Glen
05. The Rainbow Connection
06. I'm Going To Go Back There Someday
07. Dance Myself To Sleep
08. Fuzzy And Blue
09. Grouch Anthem
10. Captain Vegetable or What's The Name Of That Song? (tie)

That's a pretty rough list. I'd have to think that through. It looks good, though. I'm still fuzzy on Something's Missing (the UK song from the Rudolph Nureyev show), whether it's an original or not. I can't locate it otherwise. Any help, anyone?

And I'm leaving out, because it's not a song, per se, the music played over the Sesame Street about how crayons are created...anyone remember that? I have a homemade mp3 I love it so much. Amazing.

If you don't know the names of any of these songs, try http://home.nc.rr.com/muppetsongs

Good night everyone!

I think my favourite muppet song is 'Happy Feet' just because it is so clever. On the Of Muppets and Men documentary Henson says how they are playing a game with the viewer - trying to create a reality that doesn't really exist and they really suceed with this one...

Think about it - a tap dancing song where the performer doesn't really have any legs. In fact, through the whole song you never see Kermit's feet at all - it is completely shot above the waist, yet the way that Kermit moves is so realistic and so in time with the track that it is amazing....

Do you think I've gone on about this a bit too much? Oh well, somebody stop me!

So just to recap, my favourite is 'Happy Feet' - although as this is a cover does it really count?

Cheers!

Guy!

I have to go with "Just One Person" from 'The Muppets Celebrate Jim Henson'.
The discussion right before they begin singing always makes me cry, but the song uplifts you right afterwards.

Hey GuySmiley,

Have you ever heard Statler & Waldorf's comments on "Happy Feet" on the Muppet Show Vol. 2 LP (can't remember if they have any comments after Kermit performs it on the show)? It goes something like this:

Waldorf: You know, on the show that wasn't funny.
Statler: True, true.
Waldor: But on a record it doesn't even make sense!

You discussion about the song made me think of that, 'cause it's kinda true!
