And there was a Japanese restaurant chain that almost went under until they mentioned it obsessively in my favorite manga. Not the anime, of course... but they gave the authors golden bowls and a lifetime of free meals for having Kinnikuman mention it a bunch of times...

They even kept using the commercial's jingle in the manga


For a more banal and better known reference... who else only eats Spinach because of the Sailor Man?

The titular dish in Ratatouille is actually a variation called "confit byaldi", one big difference being that the vegetables are baked instead of fried.

I've heard that The Sopranos helped bring the cured meat capicola (or "gabagool" as Tony pronounced it) into greater prominence.
