Chapter 3: It Is The Season of The Heart
Robin sat in the tall red armchair in his space ship pajamas. He sat quietly drinking hot chocolate from a rainbow mug. Rowlf, Rizzo, and Pepe sat on the couch flipping through the channels on the remote.
"Aw Rowlf go back it was a beef comercial!" Rizzo told Rowlf through a full mouth of gingerbread cookies, while Rowlf was clicking the remote.
"No no go to de 'America's Next Model!' Hokay? Very sexy women on dat one," Pepe said.
Rowlf smirked at Pepe. "We have a five year old in the room," he told the prawn.
"Si, but jour cinco en dog jears. Hokay? Dat's like 35 or something in people jears," Pepe said.
Rowlf rolled his eyes. "But hey," Rizzo said. "We're not really people either, I mean we're not human bein's," he said.
"Si, I'm a king prawn, he's a dog, and he's a frog, and jour a rat," Scooter walked in from the kitchen and listened in on the conversation, "and Scooper's a-" Pepe stopped. "Hey, what is Scooper anyway?"
"He's the band's road manager!" Rowlf said.
"No, no," Rizzo laughed. "He's a gopher! Get it? Gopher! Ha ha!"
"Very funny guys," Scooter said.
The front door opened and Gonzo and Kermit walked in, Kermit covered his mouth as he coughed a few times.
Robin quickly sat his rainbow mug down on the coffee table and ran towards them. "Uncle Kermit! Uncle Kermit!" the young frog cried as he ran toward his uncle.
Kermit caught the frog in his arms and squeezed him tight. "Welcome home Robin," Kermit said.
Robin smiled. "Thanks Uncle Kermit," he said.
"Did you have fun with your dad and cousins and aunts and uncles at the swamp?" Kermit asked as he hung his scarf on the coat rack.
Robin nodded. "Yeah I sure did! Aunt Maggie told me to tell you that she beat your record at dragonfly pizza eating at Jerry's restaraunt, and dad said to keep up the good work on the show, and that he's sorry he couldn't make it for the Christmas show this year, and grandpa says to keep your clump close to you, whatever that means," Robin said.
Gonzo had walked over to Rowlf and the others, "What is it with frogs and clumps? Wouldn't you think they'd go to the hospital and have them removed?"
Kermit patted his nephew's head. "Well shouldn't you be off to bed now Robin?" Kermit asked.
Robin sighed. "I suppose, goodnight Uncle Kermit, goodnight everybody!"
Robin was greeted with a chorus of goodnights as he climbed up the stairs and sat on his bed in his room. He gazed up into the star studded sky. He let out a deep sigh. His family was still broken up, and this would be their first Christmas apart. Robin sniffed, he wiped his nose with his hand and sighed.
"Where are you Christmas?
Why can't I find you?
Why have you gone away?
Where is the laughter,
You used to bring me?
Why can't I hear music play?" Robin sang to himself. His thoughts drifted to the year they all spent Christmas at Fozzie's mother's farm. He glanced at his desk, the small pink pebble sat next to a red ruby. His mind was reminded of Grover returning the Fraggle Pebble to him the Christmas after that.
"My world is changing,
I'm rearanging,
Does that mean Christmas changes to?" he let a tear fall on the floor as he thought of his mom and dad spending Christmas without each other.
"Where are you Christmas?
Do you remember,
The one you used to know?
I'm not the same one,
See what time's done.
Is that why you have let me go?" he turned his attention away from the sky and let his head fall on the pillow.
Kermit walked upstairs wanting to tuck Robin in for bed, when he heard the soft singing, he stuck his head in the doorway and listened.
"Christmas is here,
Everywhere, oh,
Christmas is here,
If you care, oh,"
Kermit stepped in the room and sat on the bed next to Robin.
"If there is love in your heart and your mind,
You will feel like Christmas all the time," Kermit sang softly.
Robin smiled at his uncle, he knew where Christmas was, it was with his uncle, and Sweetums, and Rowlf, and Gonzo, and Scooter, and Miss Piggy, and everyone else.
"I feel you Christmas," both frogs harmonized.
"I know I've found you,
You never fade away,
The joy of Christmas,
Stays here inside us,
Fills each heart with love."
"Where are you Christmas?" Robin sang alone.
"Fill your heart with love."
Kermit hugged his nephew. "I know how you feel Robin, I remember my first Christmas without friends, but it'll all be ok, just remember, you have family here too. We're all here for you Robin. I love you Robin."
Robin nodded. "I love you too Uncle Kermit," Robin smiled. "Thanks," he hugged his uncle one more time, then drifted off to dreamland.
