Meanest Character in Fraggle Rock?

You're right! Begoony was the meanest, because he shrank Mokey (uh-oh) and he wanted her to be his friend, so she wouldn't hang out with her friends. I'm glad Red was suspicious and sort of straightened out the mess her friend Mokey was in.

I can see how Begooni can make this list. But at least he learns something from his emotional slavery and actually does something good to help near the end of that episode for the Fraggles. McMooch is still evil at the end of the episode and he hates Fraggles even more and I'm sure he wants them terminated if he could do it.

Well, thats more like a phobia, isn't it? Thats not the same as hate. But I maintain B is worse. He was an opportunist. The beanstalk is the only thing keeping him from getting clobbered.

McMooch has a phobia to Fraggles??? Fragglephobia maybe? :smirk:

But at least I recall Begoony admits he was wrong. For McMooch, I'll have to go back and watch, but I'm almost certain he wasn't apologetic for his actions and only let Gunge and Philo go because the Fraggles were on his property in the swamp and they disgusted him that bad. But I'm halfway thru the 2nd season, so I'll eventually get to the 3rd season and see this episode again soon.

I guess I'm actually defending the poor Begoony, cause he was a victim himself of nobody wanted to be his friend. So he became possessive for a friend, which made him a bad guy by kidnapping Mokey. I don't approve of what he did to Mokey and it's not one of my favorite episodes because he did it. I do like for the puppet doing a puppet part in the episode, it's hilarious.

NO MERCY FROM ME! The guy just gets under my skin. And the thing is, I feel like a guy like that's never gonna learn.
Not to read to much into this but sometimes people are left as outsiders for a very good reason. It's their own doing that drives people away. Treat people badly and of course no one is gonna wanna be around. I think it's safe to assume people stopped putting up with Begoony and then Mokey stumbled onto him and the cycle repeats itself.

It's a good thing they had Red and the others to interfere or else it could have become something dangerously codependent. Though, I guess she was kind of under his thrall...which is even more of a manipulation.

I do see what you're saying about McMooch but I still think greed is far less hurtful than manipulating someone's feelings.

You may have a point there. Greed is less hurtful as long as you don't use it to control someone, then it's just as bad as manipulating feelings.

Good discussion on the meanest character.

*grins and high 5's* ^_^ YES!

I agre with the OP and others who said Uncle Gobo. Ironically, Pa Gorg was just as mean to Junior, yet somehow that never bothered me.

Pa Gorg is humorous in how oblivious he is. And I think he cares about Junior, it's just that he also needs at least one subject to make himself feel important, lol.

In contrast Uncle Gobo was written so one dimensionally unpleasant and nasty it was impossible to like him. I mean I would have called Fraggle Protective Services on this guy! Lol

    BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! I hear ya!

Not having seen the whole series (only 2 seasons) I'm just gonna throw my comments out here:

Sure, McMooch was bad, but he's intentionally bad, and that's what I don't like. I don't think he should even qualify on this thread...
So far, I think Gobo would be my choice. He's cool and all, but yeah, he can be very egotistical and kind of a jerk...

Also, love the signature Beige Fraggle! That video gives me the feels everytime I watch it...

Thank you, Bliffenstimmers! So do you mean you've actually SEEN a video of that entire song? I've only heard the audio for it when I came across it somewhere online a few years ago and burned a CD of it. I know it was supposed to be part of the show's wrap party, which was a bonus feature on the final season DVD set, but they cut out the song, very sadly and infuriatingly. The audio version I have, however, sounds like a polished studio recording and not a home-video-quality version, so that leads me to suspect that there IS in fact a cleaner version than the one they would have had at the wrap party.

HensonCompany has it on youtube. Richard introduces Jim's speech and the Fraggles sing the quoted song.

Thank you SO much for showing me that! I tear up every time I hear that song, and this time was no exception. Of course, the original version in "A Tune for Two" always gets to me too.

The world NEEDS Fraggle Rock. No question about it. That show and all it stood for was the cornerstone of my childhood, and it remains an integral part of my life today. Fraggle Rock is, was, and will ALWAYS the greatest show ever, in my book.

I grew up with Sesame Street as a kid, but I've always loved Henson's work. Last month or two I found an old Fraggle Rock DVD lying around, and now I'm hooked on it! I'm already on season 3. Truly one of the most original and well made kids shows out there. I don't think I'll find something as good as this.

At least it's slowly coming back, with the new movie and comics...

    *Bumps into thread*

I really having second thoughts right now and I believe "Uncle Gobo" is one of the meanest characters of Fraggle Rock.
  17. ZeppoAndFriends Well-Known Member

Interesting point. However, if you had to deal with a Fraggle like Matt on a daily basis, wouldn't you feel justified in being a little (or a lot) grouchy?
  18. Hubert Well-Known Member

I think that Uncle Gobo's is a different kind of mean. There's evil mean, which would be a Mean Genie or Wander McMooch type thing, and then there's grumpy mean, where a character like Uncle Gobo, who is a relatively alright person with good intentions who is grumpy or frustrated because of aspects in his life and relationships (in this case Matt).

Grumpy mean-wise, I think Uncle Gobo's a good contestant. Yet on an evil mean scale, not so much.

Good point, Hubert! HI don't think he is a evil mean. He is more of a "grumpy-mean. I will be honest that Wander McMcock (yeesh!) and the Mean Genie are the meanest character. Thank you for clearing that up.

Ugh! Why am I even jumping into conclusions?

Didn't mean to sound rude or clarifying for you or anything, sorry if I did. Just was throwing some of my own personal thoughts into the pot.
