In Muppet Treasure Island, the song "Sailing For Adventure" contains a line that I don't think should be in the song. During Long John's solo, everything's going fine until he sings "And our mates will always be, just like a family". I just don't think it flows melody-wise. What do y'all think?

It's fine. What do you mean by it doesn't flow melody wise. It is part of the song's bridge. It is supposed to be a little different from the rest of the song.

I thought, "The star's will be our compuss" was the awkward line that didn't quite fit properly, but, I don't know that much about music I guess.
