Did you guys ever notice that some charachters were only there for one year, and were never seen or mentioned again? There are only a few of these that I know of. Most of the others lasted for at least 2 years.

There was a pet Donkey Oscar had during the 23rd Season that he got from Montana named Yago. The Donkey only lasted until the end of that Season.

Leo the Party Monster was a Yellow Monster performed by Richard Hunt who was only around for the 18th Season, and was eventually written out of the show. Although reaired inserts with him continued to be shown for the next few years.

There was a muppet played by Kevin Clash during the 16th Season, who liked to Rap, and make up Rhymes. I can't remember his name but it was a really long hard to pronounce name. I think he was the first charachter Kevin ever performed. He was seen in an insert with Grover called Rappin Alphabet, that continued to be aired years after this charachters departure. I guess it remained popular because it had Grover in it.

Any other one year wonders that you know of?

The Kevin Clash character you were talking about is called "Ferlinghetti Donizetti"
There's a picture of him right here.

And I remember when he was on the show. He was pretty cool. He's also seen in the "Learning About Letters" video.

I believe Professor Hastings and Dr. Rainbrain were also one year wonders.
Also, Athena- according to www.sesame-encyclopedia.com

And "Baby Monster" (aka Fred the Dragon) -http://www.sesame-encyclopedia.com/Alphabet/SesameB/BabyMonster.html

And Beautiful Day Monster

And was Bip Bipadotta only there in 1969 and then just had his songs reaired through a lot of the later episodes?

And Countess Dahling Von Dahling?

And don't forget Deena and Pearl

I'm sure there's probably more. :zany:

I think that info I Rosie might be a little bit wrong because I can remember seeing her on SS even in the late 70s. matter of fact I was suprised to have seen her on the 1974 SSU episode that Noggin showed.

There was a blind monster named Aristotle who appeared from 1982-1983.

I think ferlingetti donnizetti might have been on there longer than one year. In the Sesame Street Memory book (or it could be The Sesame Street yearbook) from 1983, there is a section on some of the people that Ernie and Bert met during that year, and ferlingetti Donnizetti was one of those characters (though it incorrectly included a picture of his keyboard player). Kevin Clash did not perform on the show in 1983, so somebody else must have originally performed him. He also appeared in the background in Follow That Bird, from 1985. Ferlingetti Donnizetti also did not appear in Learning About Letters, but he was in Getting Ready To Read.

BTW: The name of Oscar's donkey is "Iago", since it's the same name as the villain from Shakespeare's play Othello.

Would rully be interested in getting more info regarding those SS Memory/Yearbooks, always saw them advertised in the back of the SS Magazine issues but was never able to get 'em... And that's what rully gave partial initial creative origin to my Muppet Listings.

Iago was actually seen in one Season 25 episode, 3146, where Ruthie wanted him to go a certain way, but he wouldn't go that way, so she had to tell him to go the OPPOSITE way of the way she wanted him to go, and that got him to go the right way.

Dahling von Dahling's still on the show today. We've established that it was her and not von Backwards in the "Number of the Day" segments. I do remember seeing a Countess when I watched the show back in the 80s. (Some examples: The Count counted how many times he asked her to marry him and she said no; Then there was the "Twentysomething" sketch; and she was seen in one of those "On My Way with Sesame Street" books in a story called "I have a friend.") I'm assuming that was von Backwards, since that was around the time Camille performed on the show.

I also remember back in the late 80s, there was a giant juggling monster called Dexter. He was big with purple fur and red hair on top and a yellow pear shaped nose and wore a coat and turtleneck and I think he was voiced by Kevin Clash.

Dexter would always stand in one place, mainly against a wall, and would juggle all sorts of things. He was a really talented juggler. I'm thinking one person was operating Dexter's mouth and voice while his hands were being performed by a real juggler.
