Whenever you see a Muppet gets interviewed, they have a sofa/chair with a hole in it, that you go inside.

I always wonder how to make one or at least BUY one, any ideas? It would be great to have a puppet lying in a chair, being controlled!

Chairs like the ones in your photo dont have seats. The camera angle gives the illusion the characters are sitting on somthing.

For wider shots like here-

It is exactly as you described. A sofa with a hole in it with the performer under/inside it.
