Another interesting puppetry opportunity, this time in NYC:

The Czechoslovak-American Marionette Theatre is looking for traditional vent puppets and puppeteers. We would like to have a chorus of vent dummies in our upcoming production, "The Life and Times of Lee Harvey Oswald." We are looking for someone to share knowledge about traditional vents (or possibly to collaborate). Looking especially for suit and tie or tux clad, preferably wooden, Charlie McCarthy, cartoonish type (a hippie, rocker or other pertinent vent may be also considered).

Specifically:

1. Someone who would show us his/her dummies, demonstrate tricks, possibly be a vent consultant (we do have one vent performer in the company, but he has only soft dummies).

2. Someone who may be interested in being part of the cast (or chorus only)
with his or her dummy, (or our dummies). The whole cast (5-8) will at times
become the chorus (a dozen vents). The chorus will mostly move in choreographed patterns and recite short dire warnings. One or more ventriloquists will have brief ventriloquizing solos, in which they will comment on the action.

3. Someone who may own used vents as described above for sale or would let us borrow such for either a short workshop or for rehearsals and the run (or rent for not too much with or without option to buy).

It will run at La MaMa E.T.C. (First Floor Th.) May 27-June 13, 2004.

The production is Off-Off-Broadway with pay for cast members above Showcase code, and for designers (already cast) and builders negotiable, but not yet on commercial level (give us a decade or two). Please contact Vit directly at czechmarionettes@aol.com or 212-777-3891.

Non vent performers (especially males and those who play musical instruments) may also contact Vit directly with inquiries.

We will have readings and workshops for our March show "The Historye of Queen Esther, of King Asverus & of the Haughty Aman" (centuries old play of Czech itinerant puppeteers, a relative of current Purim plays) Jan 11-16 which would be a good opportunity to get acqainted and in which there may be also one or two openings.
