I've been wondering...is it possible that Radar from M*A*S*H, and the love for his teddy bear, could've influenced Big Bird to name his teddy bear Radar?

(Beau squints) "I'm not sure I understand what you're meaning!"

No, actually, you might be right! I never quite thought of it that way, but it's an interesting point.

From what I understand, I've always heard that Big Bird's teddy bear was named after Radar on M*A*S*H. Of course, that's assuming Big Bird didn't get his teddy bear until after 1972 or that it wasn't named until after 1972.
(Sesame Street started in 1969 and M*A*S*H started in 1972 and ran until 1983! And then we had AfterM*A*S*H!!!)

On page 34 of the "Sesame Street Unpaved" book, it says that Caroll Spinney met the actor who played Radar on M.A.S.H. (Gary Burghoff), and decided to name Big Bird's teddy bear in his honor.
