Retro Commercials--What's the Attraction?

Well I actually kinda agree with them, I think it's kinda weird for beloved characters children look up to trying to get kids to spend their money, lol.

This is true, but all the love/care/passion in the world doesn't always keep something around. In fact, money often helps sustain a product or something related to the product.

I mean, classic characters may or may not stand the test of time. I mean, once Thurl Ravenscroft (aka Tony the Tiger, the head Singing Bust in The Haunted Mansion during the Grim Grinning Ghosts graveyard scene, & the vocalist behind the holiday Dr. Suess hit, You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch alongside Boris Karloff) died, Frosted Flakes' Tony the Tiger dropped practically off the face of the earth.

Yes, they still sporadically--but rarely--have his voiced dubbed in for a sneak-in "They're Grrrreat" tag line to promote the cereal, but anymore it's real people with the "Earn Your Stripes" deal. :frown:

I could be wrong, but I think they did recast him at one point. Of course, with the demographics of television, phasing out characters like this (which is part due to the newfound rush to get out of childhood) is becoming a common occurance.

Ronald McDonald isn't even in the McD's ads anymore. Let alone, Grimace, Hamburgler, and all those guys. I saw a Fruity Pebbles Commercial with live kids in it, and I wept openliy. Of course, Bamm Bamm, had a brief appearance, and we heard the not quite official voice of Fred Flintstone as the narrator (Warners does have an offical Fred Voice. I can't recall his name, but it's eerily close to Alan Reed's original voice. Even more so than Henry Corden. Funny thing, since Family Guy has him on the payroll every so often, playing Fred).

But Toucan Sam is still around. That pretty much counts, right?

The Big G General Mills characters are still about. But Kellogg's seems a might picky about that stuff. I swear I saw a Snap Crackle and Pop commercial in the last few months, but I can't vouche for it.
