Don't actually know for sure if this is a thing that'll actually happen or not but, every so often we've been getting some small amount of news regarding the potential project. So here's what we have so far starting with an article that came out just this week:

http://collider.com/sesame-street-movie-update-21-laps/ (from August of this year)

With the potential SST movie being at Warner Bros. now, it makes me wonder if they would attempt to give us a SST movie full of scope and realism like FTB, as opposed to the more fantasy-oriented EIG.

If that Fraggle Rock movie won't be able to get off the ground, I doubt this will, either, even if it is a much bigger name.

Yeah, how many times has that FR movie been going to happen?

But y'know what? I'm curious. Frank Oz kept saying that he would have gotten involved with THE MUPPETS (2011) if they had asked them, which they apparently didn't. Do you think had they asked him to direct this potential SST movie, he would? For the longest time, he continued to dedicate one day a year to SST "just for fun," though he's also talked about how much he's missed the feeling camaraderie among the set since many of the original key people are no longer with us.

I can't even read the article, it keeps scrolling up and down by itself.

    Yeah.

So . . . ugh . . . why . . . can't we get actual Sesame writers to work on the screenplay? I mean, Judy Freudberg and Tony Geiss wrote FTB, Joey Mazzarino co-wrote EIG.

Yeah, i'm a little worried about that. I guess the studio must want a more commercial approach to the movie this time around. That seems the only way this project was gonna get off the ground. I'm hoping Sesame staff will help guide them enough so that they're doesn't have to be a SST writer writing it. I actually really liked Night at the Museum 3, it had a nice balance of humor, heart and likable characters, similar to a Muppet movie in some ways, so i'm confident the writers can pull this off.

At any rate, one of my concerns right now is just how commercial is this thing going to be? Are we going to have to worry about too many pop culture references in order to get adults to watch it? Will the studio feel the need to add unnecessary fart jokes because they think that's what kids want to see? Is this going to be a cheap cash grab, resembling almost nothing like the source material besides it's name? Obviously we have no idea what we're getting, probably until the trailers and early reviews start rolling out.

But, I think my biggest concern is about the characters. Will these non-SST writers get the characters right? Because that's the main reason people are gonna go see this thing, it's the iconic characters, it's not a Marvel movie where we come to see actors kick butt and make funny one-liners while foiling the vilains' latest plot twist, it's a SST movie, and we just want to see the Muppets being themselves more then anything.

Hey, I was just thinking how awesome it would be if this movie came out in 2019; it would be the perfect way to celebrate the show's 50th anniversary!

I was reading an article about how the movie It is doing so well, partially because of nostalgia, but also because of the lack of films there's been recently, audiences are starting to get desperate for something new to come out, as September is a notoriously quiet month for content. You see where i'm going with this?
