Should Tex Richman go to jail?

I'm not sure. I presumed nothing after Muppets Take Manhattan exsists, because Miss Piggy leaves the group when Kermit realizes she tricked him into marrying her.So I'm not sure if the Muppet Theater cant' be torn down without the Very Merry Muppet Christmas Movie.
  2. Collgoff Well-Known Member

    Why's that?
Miss Piggy was only acting in the movie that never happened in real life.

You know I were one those friends I would tell them to leave him alone.

Agreed. This whole movie takes place in another "universe" if you like where The Muppets Take Manhatten exists (at least as a movie) and The Muppet Show exists, but where Miss Piggy left and the group fell apart.

IF VMC had existed, then Tex could not have torn down the Theater because it's a national landmark. However, its possible that the theater there and the Muppets' Studio theater are two different theaters.

True, but she hired a real minister, and as Piggy says "You never intended to marry me." meaning he accidentally did.
  6. Dominicboo1 Well-Known Member

Exactly, but Pepe's also Miss Piggy's new partner so they might now him, but I think Miss Piggy knew him before since he wasn't collected in the montage.
  7. Hubert Well-Known Member

But in reality, they would've had to sign papers and stuff...so it really wouldn't have been official.
  8. Dominicboo1 Well-Known Member

Oh that's true! Maybe someone tricked him into signing someting like in the Marissa Berrinson epsiode, when Scooter said a nice old lady wanted to give to her sick grandchild.
  9. Hubert Well-Known Member

But...for a while before the show he was missing, which would almost mean that they had to trick him before he even knew that his show was going to be produced...

    Good point!

Assuming that the marriage seen was in the SHOW. My thinking is that the marriage scene was in the MOVIE and he was still tricked.

Well, unless all the Sesame Street characters were appearing in Kermit's play on Broadway (unlikely) then as they go through the doors...they cut forward in time to the "real in the movie" wedding of Kermit and Piggy. Kermit is then surprised when Piggy hires a real minister instead of an actor for the movie.

Nothing to do with the play whatsoever.

I always thought that he meant Gonzo was supposed to do it in the play, but that is an interesting point. It could be. The only thing is: Right after "Right Where We Belong," the opening song in what we know is part of the play, the curtains open to "Somebody Getting Married." Immediately after that, the bear family is seen going into the church, which implies that it is part of the play. There's also the fact that as Kermit is describing the play, he says that "the two leads get married." It is interesting though considering the church appears to be a completely enclosed building, and also like you said, the SST characters were there. However I think there's a chance they could've been in the play, maybe one of the Muppets met them at their jobs or something. But that is an interesting thing to think about...

MTM is left open to interpretation. Truthfully it could go either way, but I think the marriage was in the movie but not in the play. Yes, the play has a marriage in it for the two leads, but it was also lights intention to get married after they were a huge hit on broadway. Many signs point to the marriage being outside the play. It was likely done so that people would talk about it and wonder "are they married?". I think it was Jim's intention for Kermit and piggy to be married in the "real" life of the characters.

Furthermore, after Jim passed away and frank moved away from the muppets it seems the marriage was retconned. I'm not sure if this was on purpose or if it just happened but personally I like " the muppets" take on the marriage. Of course it also has to ignore over 25 years of muppet history but it's still pretty good.

Well, maybe she kept his signed license from before (can't remember what happened to it, LOL)?

At any rate, Piggy's the kind of person to collect anything Kermit has ever signed and just transfer his signature to the license. :)

Considering MTM has everyone start off in NY, maybe MTM Kermit lives on Sesame Street (he had a house there, right?) but Kermit in other properties lives in FL or MS or whatever.

I can see that they wouldn't want to deal with such an intimate topic with the primary actors gone, but as someone who comes from parents in a broken marriage, my GOD, that was offensive. She shouldn't have tricked him, but he kept stringing her along and teasing her with affection so she'd show up for work.

Compare that to other married couples in the Hensonverse: Pa and Ma Gorg and Wingnut and Flange Doozer both have "issues" but are rather stable, Fran and Earl literally stay to the ends of the earth for each other, only one married couple on SST gets a divorce (unaired, IIRC).... We see decent marriages all the time, which makes Frigshipping issues really, REALLY annoying.

I agree I think it was meant to be ambiguous and retconning is something the Muppets have done quite often when you think about it, lol.

That's why I say NEVER try to make a Muppet Canon. Nothing fits together. I give the writers of the movie credit for trying, and basically saying that they're movies anyway... but there's too much inconsistency. VMX and The Muppets are the ONLY films that referenced the other films. And VMX just for Doc Hopper.
