Spammers/Advertisers

ATTENTION MODS

I Have just noticed various spammers have been created, all with the same details, two are online now. One is called pornmatedotcom, and the other is called Abrakadabrina. Both of theese accounts were created at hte same time, their only personal info is a web address and they both have Sam and Freinds and The Muppet Movie as their Favourite Production.
Their intrests are only the respective websites. Both claim to be from the USA and A quick google of one of them shows that they have been popping up Worldwide on forums. Please can we do something about these mindless, blithering drones. They are making me, and I am sure many other Muppet Central users very :grouchy:

Heck, The most offensive one is on just about every forum out there, all with the same details.

Hello... We appreciate your bringing this to our attention. Let me assure that as the New Members Moderator, I receive the notifications of each and every new user that joins the forums, and these two jerks have been already dealt with. Additionally, this problem isn't just cropping up now... This is a result of a long story that started back in 2006. If you like I can tell you about it via email. I have noticed that all of a sudden the spammer activity has increased with the start of October, as I've banned slightly over 140 spammers in a week's time. They keep multiplying and attacking other forums that use VB Bulletin, as Creatus Maximus has come under heavy spammer registrations as well.

So I hope this helps assuage your fears and please let us know if there are any threads or posts made by spammers that shouldn't be here on the forum. Thanks and have a good day.

Spammers suck.

The biggest problem with spammers now is that they have tools that can now read captcha systems via OCR type recognition.

There are a number of ways of fighting them, and while I use a modified registration system on my site and its kind of hardcore and merciless, the only real way of keeping them out is with admin activation- even if it did take me a day to get activated.

I have to admit one thing though...

For the few days I've been visiting here, this has to be one of the cleanest boards I'm registered on.

Thanks... We try to do what we can to promote the general ambiance of good feelings between members and help this place remain true to itself and the Muppet ideals.

Hope you have fun exploring the rest of the forums and welcome aboard. :batty:

Yes, this is exactly what has kept me away from here for a time during the past weeks. I actually do help run a VB Bulletin forum (much smaller than this) and the spammers were really attacking full force last week. We had to toss out about half the registrations and remove over 30 threads. It was a mess!

I can imagine that this site, being much larger, would have a similar problem with bogus registrations. But, I have to compliment you guys who are working behind the scenes at keeping this place cleaned up.

Good job folks.
