I need to check out this album!
Ugh! Gymnastics is nerve racking. It makes me too tense to watch. ~_~ Archery was cool though. Japan got the bronze and they deserved it. I loved how cheerful they were when the tension broke. I swear Kanie looks like Velma. o.o

I'm watching some gymnastics right now...even though I'm bored out of my mind watching it...gymnastics never kept my interest... :p (hence the reason I'm posting here and doing a million other things)

^_^ Change the channel, ya dope! ....Says the girl who is yelling at the TV because of gymnastics. I'm telling you, I just can't enjoy it. Mostly, I feel really awful for the girls who put their entire lives into this and sink or swim in under 5 minutes.

Change the channel? I'm way too lazy for that...

LOL Well, your suffering is over by now. Man...I hate that I have to go back to work tomorrow. I'm going to be longing for Olympic coverage. I'm going to have to look for live feed on websites. lol
    DVR for everything else.

Can this be the reason I have the broadcast live and you don't?

The Mr. Bean segment of the opening ceremony was the only thing worth watching.

And brother, was it worth watching! I was afraid they'd gloss over Britain's greatest achievement to mankind, it's AMAZING comedy programming.

I disagree. I know a lot of people were either iffy or unimpressed with the historical bits but that was what I enjoyed the most. I keep hearing the critique that it was 'too English' but I don't know about that. I'll grant you it was a little disjointed but the rings and the lighting of the cauldron won it over for me.

Well, that and that Edina and Patsy were involved in any part of this is really amazing. Bean was pretty funny, admittedly. I tend to prefer Rowan as Black Adder but he still made me giggle a bit.

I'm surprised I understand most of the historical parts. Maybe the international history they taught in school is useful after all.

When they played Bohemian Rhapsody, I thought "Why didn't they use the Muppet version?"

Taiwan (Chinese Taipei) got a silver in weight-lifting yesterday! I can't believe I missed it.

What are people's thoughts on the badminton fiasco?

That thing about the giant inflatable Captain Hook, Voldemort, Cruella DeVille, and Queen of Hearts being defeated by a legion of Mary Poppinses was certainly... errrr... special. Still, I wonder why there was no Sherlock Holmes mention anywhere if they were talking about Brit Lit... Sherlock and Marvin the Paranoid Android. And their version of Dennis the Menace.

To be fair, I really also loved the James Bond bit where the Queen jumped out a plane. It's all more entertaining and less disturbing than what China did last time. That just screamed "do it right, or you'll never see your family and loved ones again!"

NBC's coverage is the joke everyone says it is, though. I will say that I'm so deeply programmed, when the country name "Madagascar" popped on screen, I jumped out of my seat (having just watched a crapload of Penguins of Madagascar episodes)... but when the commentators mentioned it, I face palmed. You can't describe a country by their culture, so you describe it with our culture. Mmmkay!

Well, our coverage can be pretty pitiful, it's true but for once I'm just happy they are actually televising events in which Americans are not participating. In the past, there was much less of that. If we didn't do it, it didn't matter.

I did think the bit with the literature references was a bit odd. I think the focus was children's literature. I guess, that was to keep in line with the whole children's hospital thing.

Anyway, it isn't what it could be but I am still eating it up. I absolutely love watching these competitions. There is some impressive athleticism out there. It's so nice to see it showcased.

I wonder how you folks felt about Korea losing the sword competition. Because to the citizens of Taiwan, we're extremely happy because Korea always cheats in Taikuando. (however it's spelled)
