I sometimes wonder exactly when they filmed Sesame Street episodes. I remember reading in the book titled "Sesame Street Unpaved" that they always spent 4 months out of the year taping over 100 episodes for the upcoming season. Now I'm wondering when those 4 months were that Sesame Street was taped. Does anyone have any info on this?

In the first year (1969) most of the show was taped during the summer months, with changes being made all the way up to the November 10 premiere. Then after 1971, they tended to shoot in the spring, to give plenty of time for editing and adding various film inserts. Sesame Street was taped at the Teletape Studios at Broadway and 81st Street in New York (it's long gone), and they would have up to six months for the production of Sesame Street, and six months for the Electric Company. In 1992 they moved the set to its current home at the Kauffman Astoria Studios in Queens. Hope this helps.
