If it's any consolation to you Pinky, my dad's a truck driver, and he just came back from Miami earlier this week, while Sandy was down there: while he does admit that the high winds presented a challenge for him and his truck, he made it home in one piece.

Surely, Mr. Pinky will be fine... I honestly believe that a lot of what they talk about regarding impending storms is a little overinflated hysteria anyway... take last spring, for example, remember when it was all over the news about that "super storm" system that swept through the south for an entire week? By the time it finally got to us, it wasn't quite as bad as everybody was making it out to be: yes, there were high winds, yes there was lots of rain, yes there was some hail, but damage was minimal at best (the "preview" storm we had the Monday before was a lot worse).

    Just some food for thought.

Thanks D'Snowth that actually made me feel a little better. I'll probably be on here more then normal tomorrow (not that I'm not on here enough :p) just to keep my mind busy. Obviously the media is making it more dramatic so it's making people panic even more and I would be totally fine if my husband didn't have to go to work in it. And while he doesn't have far to go it still makes me feel nervous.

I pray for everyone though who will be affected by this storm that you all stay safe. It's gonna be a long week. :/

Thanks guys I really appericate it. Although if the power goes out tomorrow I won't be on at all. :p

I'm curious about your power system. As many typhoons as we have, I don't think we get power outages.

I'm really nervous about the storm, even though I'm trying to tell myself that it won't be as bad as people say it is. I can't really help feeling out of joint and really anxious, especially hearing about all the potential for waves since I live near the shore. I would appreciate your hugs if I could have some.

That's what's jarring me is not knowing what's gonna happen. This wait and see stuff it what's torturing. I think I'll feel better ironically enough once it gets here because then you get an idea of what exactly is happening.

Really? That's interesting...some of us are without power a large amount of times over the course of the year, even a thunderstorm often does the job. I wonder if over where you are they have a stronger system to compensate typhoons?
  10. Vincent Liu Well-Known Member

I guess if we don't have a strong system, we'll have power outages every 2 weeks during the summer.
  11. Hubert Well-Known Member

Excuse me for any hint of ignorance here, but this is making me curious: is there any chance that the Taiwan power system is set up completely different than the US, which might be the reason why you don't get power outages?
  12. Vincent Liu Well-Known Member

According to my dad, there seems to be a double circuit system, which halves the chances of a power outage, but I'm not really sure.
  13. Hubert Well-Known Member

Hm...that mumbo jumbo "Double circuit" means nothing to me, so...

IS THERE ANYONE HERE THAT IS AN ELECTRICIAN?!?!?!?!?!!? :p
  14. Vincent Liu Well-Known Member

My dad is, apparently. But "double circuit" is not a special term, just one I made up in the process of translation. :p
  15. Hubert Well-Known Member

I dunno...it sounded pretty good to me...and one that I have heard mentioned around here at some point...

(to all higher level thinkers): Here's my comment, so call me stupid. :sing:

I need a big hug right now. :( Things are not going well between Underwater Cowboy and I. Prayers would be appreciated.
