I was kinda of surprised; I went to CVS yesterday to look for gloves and they had all their Christmas stuff out already.

Technically it's always in the cereal isle, (at least at my grocery store), but they put it out front during October.

That actually surprises you? Most places start stocking their shelves with Christmas stuff around like October 1.

That rarely phases me. What gets my goat is when they put out the Christmas stuff just before the Halloween stuff at Target. And then the week leading up to Halloween, they push the stuff into a corner like it's clearance. But it isn't yet.

Umm...why is this a surprise? Christmas stuff was out in my area near the end of August. I hate Halloween anyways so I could really care less about that.

Yeah and it's been like this for several years now, we really ought to be used to it, lol.

I know people act like this is some big news story. I don't even remember the last time Christmas stuff was out AFTER Thanksgiving.

Thanksgiving always gets the shaft when it comes to the major holidays... I think the problem is it's difficult to try to commercialize and secularize a holiday that's about... well... being thankful for what you have, and remembering those who came to this new land for freedom. Therefore, Thanksgiving has a tendency to be a very under-rated and under appreciated holiday, because there's no candy, or presents, or anything like that involved.

Yeah Thanksgiving always get the short end of the drumstick (haha). There's just not as much opportunity for merchandising (apart from the supermarket!). It doesn't help that they've pulled back on the Native American dolls out of political correctness so now all we have are the Pilgrim dolls and really who cares about them? Lol.

But you're right, bottom line it's hard to merchandise thankfulness. But perhaps that's a good thing. ;)

I've been out on Black Friday a couple of times. You couldn't pay me to do it again. Too many people. And Black Friday seems to do something to some people's brains. Someone even got shot at a Toys R Us a couple years ago. What kind of psychopath brings a gun to a Toys R Us?

It's not entirely a big deal really, but am I the only one who gets just a little annoyed with how people seem to get goth and emo mixed up?

How did I know Sarge would be the first to respond to that? :shifty:

Well, the difference between political correctness and sympathy... we kinda screwed the heck out of the Native Americans at every turn. Then there's the lie that the Europeans carved out civilization out of raw wilderness. The Native Americans kinda did, and then European diseases killed many of them off. Things were practically waiting there for the Europeans to move in. And the treatment afterwards.... ouch. Thanksgiving and Columbus Day are kinda polarizing due to the unfortunate parts of our history. But that really has nothing to do with it.

I'd like to blame this... the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade. There's one turkey and a couple Pilgrims, but the whole thing is just a reminder that Christmas is coming. There's more Christmas than Thanksgiving in a Thanksgiving parade. Forgivable though, as it is a store that's throwing the parade. But the merger between that and Christmas started out of it.

But at least let Halloween happen first. It's for kids, granted. Unless you're invited to a party or have a haunted house, it's for kids. And come on. Don't you just love when cute little kids are running around in costumes and remembering that you used to be like that?

Yes while that is true, I doubt that's the reason for the merchandising change, heh.

Well sadly in my area this year Halloween pretty much didn't happen. Parents were just too afraid to let their kids go out with all the downed wires. So we might be even more anxious to make something decent about Thanksgiving, heh.

It's be funnier if they just focused on cartoony looking turkeys. Even without PC, Thanksgiving has lame decorations compared to other holidays. Of course, I prefer Halloween decorations to Christmas ones, and LOVE seeing Bunnies all over the place on Easter.

I think Thanksgiving decorations are nice I just don't decorate for every season cause I don't live in a big enough of place to store it all.
