I've been wondering this for awhile, and after l looked it up at wikipedia I still couldn't find (or understand) the answer. Mayeb you all know.
Anyway, I've read that ficticious characters are trademarked instead of copyrighted, and a trademark is good as long as it's still being used. But how long of a gap does a trademarked character or item need to not be used before becomming public domain? And is it usually new productions with those characters (or new products, depending on if the character was originally created as merchandise), or do reruns and such keep somethign trademarked?
I wodner if any Muppets (like the Sam and Friends cast or the SNL Muppets) are still trademarked.
