"The Muppet Show" took over a year to really "catch on" at least here in the States, and Jim had to call in a lot of friends to take a chance and appear on the show. Later on, the got over booked and had to actually turn down people like Paul Mcartney since they were going out of production.

So who would you have liked to have seen on the show? My (partial) list:

STEVE ALLEN-since he gave them their start he should have been the first Guest Star

JIMMY DEAN-they could have let Rowlf host the show for once.

MEL BROOKS-he could sing, tell jokes and play the drums.

JOHNNY CARSON-he could have done a magic and played the drums.

LUCILLE BALL-lots of phyisical stuff

DOLLY PARTON

MICHAEL PALIN

SHARI LEWIS

JOHN RITTER

GEORGE HARRISON

RICHARD PRIOR

MICKEY ROONEY

ANN MILLER

CARL REINER

DONALD O'CONNOR-they could have spoofed "Francis the Talking Mule"

THE SMOTHERS BROTHERS

BENNY HILL

ROBIN WILLIAMS-"Pigs in Space" meets Mork form Ork

and of course
PAUL MCARTNEY

There are others, but who would you suggest?

2 men who I would have really loved to have seen on the show are the great Welsh singer Mr.Harry Secombe. He was a part of the radio comedy team Goon Show featuring Peter Sellers and Spike Milligan both of whom guest starred in seasons 2 and 3 respectively. So it would have been wonderful if Harry had guest starred and finished off the Goon Show triumvirate.

The other man I'd have loved is Mr.Tim Brooke-Taylor british comedian not really very well-known outside Britain itself and my own country Australia and also New Zealand. But he also was part of a comedy trio I grew up watching on television called The Goodies and his partners were Graeme Garden and Bill Oddie

Because I always thought these men would have worked so well with the Muppets I wrote outlines for them which I'm hoping to turn into scripts eventually. When I'm ready to write more I'm sure I'll think of some other guests I would have loved to have seen:smile:

I'd loved to have seen Caroll O'Connor. He could've sung and maybe done a skit or two.

Bea Arthur would have been hysterical!

What about Angela Lansbury? Did Dick Van Dyke ever guest star? He'd be great!

Lightfoot recorded many great songs besides the hits he had in the 70s. There was 1 he recorded back in 1967 called Canadian RR Trilogy about the building of the Canadian Pacific Railroad. I'd would of loved to have seen Lightfoot perform it and have the Muppets acting out the song.

Dick and Rita Moreno hosted "The Muppets Go Hollywood" Special. That should have been included on the 50th Muppet Movie DVD.
