Why isn't the Muppet Show on TV?

I'm amazed that the old Muppet Show episodes aren't on one of the 500 or so channels available? What's the reason? They're so awesome I have to believe they'd be very popular. I realize this is probably a silly newbie question in a forum like this, but hey, someone here must have a good answer.

    Hiya Hellisen!

Welcome to the Muppet Central Forum!

First of all, there are no silly questions. Actually there are, but those are the ones we love!

The Muppet Show was on the Hallmark Channel up until about a year ago, but I don't think it's being broadcast anywhere at the moment. As to why....that's a tough ball to call. I really hope someday soon it turns up on something like TV Land--in the past it's been on Nickelodeon and a few other channels.

Really, I don't have any answer for you, except to say "yes, with 500 channels out there, The Muppet Show should really be on several of them."

Hopefully this will be fixed soon.

I'm also very tired. So maybe I'm overcompensating. Elaine Benes would so break up with me.

I'd love to see the muppets put back on the air in canada, too...

oh well, that's what dvd's are for...

I think there is some issue as to who has the rights to air the program. I believe Hallmark still holds the rights to that and Fraggle Rock in the US, being they are rollovers from Odyssey's holdings on the shows. I don't know about contracts though, so I'm sure the rights can be sold off should anyone want to bid. And of course, in agreement...

A few years ago (5 or so) The Muppet Show was on Nick, during the day no less. I was lucky enough to have a work schedule that allowed me to see it . I highly agree with you that it should be on! They should have an all Hensen channel. You know, Fraggle Rock, The Muppet Show, Bear, etc. *sigh* Maybe some day.

If you check in the earliest MC News archieves, they had a lot of info on the now-defunct Kermit Channel. There was a Henson channel in store, it just didn't work out for the US. There was the Kermit channel in some foreign countries (which one I don't remember off-hand..), but that didn't last too long either. Check it out if your interested.

Oh, and welcome to MC!!! :D

Yeah... and what's all this with several hundered Sports channels? COMEON!!! They don't even SHOW sports (otherwise Futurama would still be on the air) all they do is show those annoying Sports Center type shows. And do we really need haf the channels out there? And why won't Toon Disney show Darkwing Duck or Tailspin anymore instead of Sub-Brina the Preteen wretch and Teamo Subpar-o?

    Hello Welcome I'm Comical DrBob
Last months they were showing The Muppet show on the Disney channel in Australia, but somehow they stopped its still listed in the tv guide but when I went to watch it something stupid was on so I was so annoyed
They played a bit of the 1st season & most of the 3rd season then took it off the air only to replace it with Boy meets world [its on numerous times of the day]

Yeah, that's typical Disney. In the states, we don't even get that half a month of Muppet magic. We get 24-7 Boy Meets World, Even Stevens (which isn't as bad as you might think), and whatever their other shows are. Sad sad sad sad sad.

Even Stevens I wouldn't mind, but why the *&*& All the boy meets World episodes? I mean, the show's been cancelled for years, and it isn't even that funny.

    That's one reason I don't have cable!

Ok,the stupid foxtel guide [paytv operator] for Disney is wrong & I found out that the Muppet Show comes on at the weekends only.

Last time I got a continual fix of the Muppet Show was in the mid 80's when Nick had that Muppet mornings(with The Muppet Show, Muppet Babies, and that Andy and Randy thing)

Before then, I hadnt gotten a continual fix of the Muppet Show since its original syndication int he early 80's.

Last time I saw an episode of the Muppet Show was the live Muppet Show in person in 2001....so yeah, definately need to get back into watching that(the recent half hour TMS infomercials piqued my interest though)

Sadly, TMS and Fraggle Rock, arguably two of the greatest shows ever on TV next to Seinfeld...are virtually nowhere to be seen on tv as of late. A true shame. We get endless Wings, Married With Children, MASH, The Nanny, and freaking Home Improvement everyday...but no JHC shows in site(cept for Sesame, which I cant get in due to poor antenna reception)

Where do you get Married with CHildren? THey don't have that anymore over here.

I am sick of all the Darma and Greg/ Will and Grace reruns.

They actually started reruning Newsradio again (it's off and on with us) and they only have 3rd Rock on at like 1 p.m.

But it's not the reruns that bug me, it's those endless Judge Joe Judy Hatchett Wapner Doofus/ Blind X-rated Date presents Soft porn Bull doodoo.

To the person who started this thread:

In case you don't know already, Time-Life is selling 15 TMS videos and DVDs through their website. 45 episodes are available (3 per tape or disc). 2 of those DVDs are now available in stores across the country from Columbia-TriStar, and 2 more are coming in March. It's not quite the same as having them on TV, but if you need a TMS fix, that's the way to go (especially since these episodes are completely uncut).

Hope that helps! And here's to TMS showing up again soon, perhaps on TV Land.

I used to watch "Muppet Matinee" on Nickelodeon all the time! and do TMS DVDs have anything extra on them or are they exactly the same as the tapes?
