Fraggle Rock: The magic is back!

By Phillip Chapman
January 25, 1999

Muppet Central’s Fraggle Rock campaign, "Bring Back the Magic" which began on September 1, 1998 is now over.

We received a total of 1246 individual votes, with more than 4400 people saying that they would watch Fraggle Rock and purchase new Fraggle merchandise if it were made available.

Fraggle Rock will be on television again this spring as the Odyssey Channel re-launches due to the new partnership between Hallmark, Henson, and Odyssey. It is likely that Fraggle Rock will be on Odyssey for many years to come.

As many of you know, Fraggle Rock was a wonderful series that ran from 1982 to 1987. Jim Henson said that he wanted to "make the world a lot of fun to visit. It is a high-energy, raucous musical romp. It's a lot of silliness. It's wonderful. However, the second thing that we're doing with this show is saying something. What the show is really about is people getting along with other people, and understanding the delicate balance of the natural world" (Jim Henson: The Works, 1993, p. 200).

We would like to especially thank Fraggle Rock performers Karen Prell, Jerry Nelson, and Terry Angus for their cooperation in this survey. We would also like to thank all of those who helped to publicize our campaign especially Kenneth Plume, Chris Andrese, Robert Waugh, and Rick Miller.

Muppet Central will continue to be adding lots of Fraggle related material in the coming months to correspond with the show’s re-launch on the Odyssey network.

Thanks for bringing back the magic!
