O'Bannon hints at Farscape movie

By D. W. McKim
January 15, 2000

The chats with Farscape actors and crew sponsored by scifi.com have been a marvelous way for fans and artists to communicate - in every single chat, the guests have continued to be gracious with time and very warm and accommodating - it's clear that these are people who genuinely appreciate and thrive off of fan reaction and are not just participating for publicity sake. It's not too uncommon for other people to drop in and chat along even when it's not their "turn"!

On a personal level, as much as I love the actors - professionally and personally - it's the chats with the rest of the creative staff; creator, producers, directors, writers - that I look forward to most as these contain the most insight. Besides having a grasp on the whole Big Picture, they know what's safe to reveal and tease whereas the actors have to tiptoe more delicately not knowing what they can safely spoil.

In series creator Rockne O'Bannon's second chat, much of interest was discussed but the most significant revelation is that there are plans for a Farscape movie. Discussions are being held with Brian and Lisa Henson and the creative staff is trying to nail down more of the mythology ahead of time so anything in a film wouldn't conflict with the series.

O'Bannon revealed a two parted episode penned by producer/writer David Kemper would most likely tie in with the movie. All this is on the drawing boards, but O'Bannon promises it will happen in a year beginning with a "2". Meanwhile the four part season finale along with the upcoming two part season two opener work together very much like a movie and gives us a taste of what one might be like.

One final tidbit not in the transcript since it was mentioned before it officially started, the Brian Henson chat will be rescheduled as soon as possible but only when it's a 100% sure thing that he'll be available.
