Bonus features taped for Fraggle Rock DVD box set

Officially HIT is still "considering" releasing season sets

By Greg James
March 10, 2005

It was almost one year ago that HIT Entertainment bought the licensing and distribution rights for the Henson’s Family Showcase, most notably the TV show Fraggle Rock. The first Fraggle Rock DVD, “Where it all Began” was released in July 2004 (with a special edition in October). The second DVD, “Dance Your Cares Away” came out in January 2005. And the third DVD, “Live by the Rule of the Rock”, is due out next month, April 26, 2005. Each of these small collections features three episodes of the show, along with some minor bonus features. But the fans want more – they want complete season box sets of the show.

HIT was questioned in February about the possibility of producing season sets of Fraggle Rock. "We're considering that," said Jamie Cygielman, Senior Vice President of Consumer Products for HIT Entertainment. "We're considering season sets" is also the answer that HIT customer service is currently giving anyone who asks about the possibility of season sets.

But signs are now starting to show that HIT may have stopped considering the situation, and may have started work on the product. Word came from a freelance employee at HIT Entertainment who reported that several Henson employees and performers visited HIT Entertainment in early March to tape special introductions, bonus material, and other features for DVD season sets of Fraggle Rock. Both HIT and Henson have not commented on the claims (either to support of deny them), but if this is true, it could mean that fully loaded season sets are not far off; and an official announcement should be released later this spring.

Pre-order the next DVD, Fraggle Rock: Live By The Rule Of The Rock.

Speculation from others in the industry is that if these rumors are true, and season sets are coming, don’t expect any kind of announcement, statement, or confirmation of the season set production until after (or possibly coinciding with) the release of the next single-disk release, “Live by The Rules of the Rock”, on April 26. And even if production has started, don’t expect to see a product in stores until probally the fall of 2005 (or later).

HIT is still on the record saying they are considering seasons sets of Fraggle Rock Season, and claim that no decision to produce them has been made. Just to be sure that all five seasons get produced, take a few minute to call HIT's Fraggle Rock hotline and request Fraggle Rock DVD season box sets.
