The Henson Timeline: The 1950's

1954 Appearances on "The Junior Good Morning Show" featuring Jim's first puppets, Pierre the French Rat, Longhorn and Shorthorn, on a local television station in Washington, D.C.

1954 Jim Henson meets Jane Nebel in a puppetry class at the University of Maryland

1955 Appearances on "Afternoon with Inga" and "Footlight Theatre"

1955 "Sam and Friends" begins airing nightly at 6:25 PM and 11:25 PM on WRC-TV, Washington DC on May 9

1956 Appearances on "The Arthur Godfrey Show," "The Steve Allen Show," and "The Will Rogers, Jr., Show"

1957 First Wilkins Coffee commercial taped

1958 Company incorporated as Muppets, Inc.

1958 Appearances on "The Jack Paar Show"

1959 Jim Henson and Jane Nebel are married
