They have them here in Hanover, Pa. USA all over the place but they only come in funky colors and What I'd really like to find is them in white so I can dye them the color that I feel best matches the puppet. White ostrich is the hardest to find here.

There was a website link posted once, but I don't know where it is now; and I can't remember if there was an item number listed as well, but I hope we can find that info out so maybe we can all just start ordering this stuff.

i think my favorite thing about ostrich boas is how well they convey emotion. i mean, they rock! i don't really know how to describe it but when a puppet has ostrich feathers it's so much easier to tell what emotion the puppeteer is trying to show. definetly worth spending a little more on ostrich boas than getting normal boas.

i just now realized how hilarious it is to be talking about feather boas, but that's ok. i'm a puppeteer, i've gotten used to being a little weird  lol

Your absolutely right! With the fixed eyes of a puppet, the hair is the next best sign of emotion. The fluidity of ostrich feather conveys anger, fear, playfulness, sadness, ect.... as well as human eyes do in my opinion.

green fur

We got the green fur as a remnant at Hancock Fabrics. Doesn't seem to be something they carry regularly though. Did recently find, however, some funky colors of long fur that have little tufts of yellow in it, at Wal-Mart and also at Hobby Lobby. Can't wait to use it.

My son (thatonekid) has decided not to sell the green guy with the red hair (Douglas), as he's gotten quite attached. The other 4 are for sale now, and will probably go on e-bay sometime next week if they don't sell privately before then.

We're hoping to sell enough of these to support our puppet-making habit.

Hey, Fozzie:

Are you still looking for ostrich feathers? Here's a site that might help:

http://www.tonyhill.net/productCat85993.ctlg

They'll take credit cards, checks, or money orders as payment, and it looks like they have different feather lengths to choose from. If you're looking for a site that has realistic hair (doll wigs, etc.) I've found another website, and I can post the link on the Message Board if you or anyone else is interested. Good luck with your puppets!

Hmm...wish I could help you with the ostrich feather question. I've only ordered for one so far and it won't arrive for a while. I've never worked with ostrich feathers either.

But I'll be happy to share some links I've found:

Here's the doll hair site I found. I haven't attached the hair yet, since the puppet I'm making doesn't have a head yet. (the first head's kinda too lumpy and big so I'm making a second one).

But the hair I ordered was called the "Synthetic Fancy Curls" and just taking it out of the package, there's a LOT of movement to it! If you want a puppet that's energetic, this hair might do the trick. Depending on the size of the puppet head, you might have to order maybe three or four "hanks" of it.

http://www.clothdollsupply.com/hair5.html

I'm not sure about the other kinds of hair and how well they'd work, but at the bottom of the page, there's some brightly colored synthetic hair in colors like blue, green and yellow, which might work for something, and some fuzzy optic fiber stuff at the very bottom of the page.

I've only looked at the following sites a couple times, so I don't know if these would be any help or not, but I'll post 'em anyway:

http://www.miniworlddolls.com/Wigs0.htm

http://allaboutdolls.biz/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=A1&Category_Code=MW

Here's a post where I found some stuff that might work for dreadlocks:

I've found a few links about puppet eyes, if you're interested.
