From what I understand, Jim Henson brought Carment from Plaza. She worked on SS for several years before a character was conceived for her.

Somehow I remember Snuffy wearing black-and-white striped pajamas on his "visible to everybody" debut; adults on the street were insisting that the stripes were part of his body, despite Big Bird's protests to the contrary. (If the episode with the pajamas argument aired before/after Snuffy's going public, please fill me in!)
