OK...let's recap:

We have people being killed for no apparent reasons, people doing all kinds of crazy things, a so-called economic recession, abortion, cyber-bullying, physical bullying, major issues with society, corruption of future generations, drunk driving, drugs, swearing, and terrorist attacks among other things, and the best thing the Senate can do is disable anonymous online posting.

Um...

And they'll barely be able to do that I'm sure, lol.

This is just another ill-advised, unenforceable, destined-to-fail bit of legislation. It just tells me how little the people who drafted it up, who clearly wanted to get into the news on a hot-button issue, understand the Internet. I can't take it seriously.

Funny you should mention cyber-bullying. This bill was created specifically as a response to that. It's not going to do much good, sure... but if there was a way to get public information about someone who's bullying you, that's going to discourage a LOT of Trolls and random jerks. If someone was bullying you terribly, you could get their info and either file a restraining order or seek legal action.

Why wouldn't you want that?

It's not so much a bad bill as a misguided one. No one likes internet trolls or random jerks. There just has to be a better way to protect the anonymity of the innocent.

In some sense, it does prevent cyberbullying. But in another sense, it makes it easier for cyber predators and stalkers to get to you.

Exactly. It's not exactly the best way to go about it. But unlike SOPA, this actually came out of the need for something that could benefit us.

Just, they're doing it the wrong way.

And how do we know this is going to affect people in other countries? Like of you're being picked on by some Canadian doof? And if it works in other Countries, China just grew a big grinchy smile right now...

I say the legislation needs to go through a LOT of revisions. Public records should be accessed by police in extreme cases, child pornography, violent bullying that doesn't end with banning accounts... but as it stands, it's a bandaid solution at best.
