In a live performance, the actors can pick up on the audience's vibes and make the play sizzle. The spontaneity can carry the performance to new highs.
Which I think might be why people don't freak out so much over revivals of plays or musicals, the way they do with movie reboots. We don't have one particular theatre performance set in stone that we all got used to and can't stand to see changed.

The thing with so many films in the last 30 years, especially with the blockbusters, is (sometimes) over reliance on CGI fx and such.
Well recently it's been because those movies aren't made for the US market, so character interactions that aren't easily translated are avoided. Hollywood has been losing it lately, and not because of evil SJWs, but just good old fashioned greed. :wink:
