I can usually figure out how stuff was done, and this type or performance is way different than your usual puppet stuff, so CGI and post production could be the answer…

I was sent this clip and instantly loved the puppet. I guess I've lived under a rock as this is the first time I'd heard of Flat Eric built by Henson's shop. His hands and arms are quite maneuverable. Were the arm rods removed in post? I imagine the hand/fingers could be cable pulls.

Just trying to learn more, if anyone here knows!

Yep, digital rod removal. Notice that at least in THIS Flat Eric thing, all the shots of Eric where his hands are moving are locked shots - that is, the camera is not moving. Really easy to do rod removal without camera moves.
